Question Pro-longing lucid dreams and gaining control

Last night I had a lucid dream in it I was lying in my bed when I realised that I was dreaming but I didn't want to move because my room was very dark. In real life i'm not really scared of the dark but during my dream I was very wary for some reason. Because I remained sat in my bed during my dream it slowly began to fade away. What can I do to overcome the fear of exploring my dreams and how can I prolong them? I am a beginner at this and have only had a few lucid dreams.

Fear is probably one of the biggest road blocks in dreaming. I honestly don't think you can describe lucidity with words because it's different for everyone. Nonetheless the experience is amazing! Next time when it's dark, ask or shout for clarity and focus. Don't be afraid to move around though. Usually when I WILD mine always start off in the dark but when I start moving everything comes to light.

As for stabilizing I don't think there is a technique that will make a dream last longer over night. Once again these techniques will differ from person to person. One technique that I've had great success with is, MEDITATION! Man I can't even tell you how stable my dreams have been from that. Everything just comes to focus and gets super vivid! After you've initially stabilized with meditating, throughout the dream you should try and use all of your senses. Emphasize Touch and Vision

I'll tell you right now that there is nothing to be afraid of when exploring the dreamscape. If something bad happens, you can use all the creativity bestowed unto you to tackle the situation with ease. Nightmarish creatures blocking the way? Defeat them Final Fantasy styled! You've got the largest array of ways to remove any blocks in the dream.

If you ever feel the dream fading away, do what Azul said, and engage the senses. The more you engage, the better. Most people use touch, but if another sense or sense combo works for you, use it.

Don't be afraid in your dreams - you're in the safest place your mind has to offer.
