Lightbulb Unusual Sleeping Conditions - Let's Sleep The Wrong Way Round In Bed!!

Soo - thought, this might justify it's own thread..

I read the following post from sisyphus - answered - and now I think, it might make sense to go about experimenting with unusual sleeping conditions.
It would be relatively easy to try out, if lying the wrong way round in bed made an effect pro LD!

This is where it comes from:

Now - this whole theory of yours makes a lot of sense and has practical applications!
      Let's go sleep unusually!

Just a thought - what about wrong way round in bed?? Rather easy, if it worked..
And keep switching..? Probably all runs dead with enough acclimatisation having gone down before, though.

      Any ideas?

"Try lying the wrong way in bed. So instead of sleeping your normal way ||:>-|-o:} sleep upside down ||:o-|-<:} Its very simple but it completely changes your mental orientation and confuses your mind."

I've tried this a few times and it has changed the way I slept as i woke up a lot more as, as you said, your body is more aware. Apart from that I didn't notice that much change, anyone else try it?

I had an idea of this two weeks ago. I couldn't relax in my old bed position anymore, so I decided to turn around and sleep "the wrong way". Actually, I had a semi-lucid after 1 week(may be an accident), and my sleep got better overall. Weird, but tested.

You can sleep further down the bed so your feet dangling off the end of the bed. Experiment with different amounts of dangling.

Also (if your bed is low enough) sleep on your front with one leg out of the bed so that the area of leg from knee to foot is resting on the floor.

Ah - cool - so some of you have experimented already and successful!
Didn't get sleep till now yet - and so I will do it the usual way round now.

I think, that is too "awake" for me - lying down I prefer, I think.
But maybe halfway - on a sofa - head a bit higher..

For me, sleeping in a hotel has 100% success rate on the handful of occasions that it happened in the past few years. Now, that's not an practical recommendation but it's evidence to me that this phenomenon is legit and useful. Even so, I personally only encounter it accidentally rather than using it as a tool, but that's just me. I'd save it for an exceptional case, like trying to break a dryspell. It's as much, if not more, psychological as it is physical. I think psychological factors are more effective because they operate on the sense of awareness whereas an unusual physical position might just be uncomfortable.

To my shame - I didn't even try it out myself yet..redface.gif

It might be, I felt the hotel-effect as well - but it is hard to say, since while being on a visit to my parents in law - there was also the comp going.
So I can't separate, which had how much part in the raise of lucidity this phase gave me back then.
But the last some days of the comp, being back home, were pretty dry in comparison, which includes recall - at least so I remember it.
Hach - I should consult my DJ before making such assertions - could be my memory playing tricks on me - but sure is: LDing went really nicely while this holiday!
My mother used to say - first night in a different place - remember what you dream, it might mean something special.
I guess, she came to that opinion by also having noticed a raised awareness, at least concerning good recall and vivid dreams.

For centuries people slept (relatively compared to contemporary preference) sat up in bed. This is now thought to be what accounts for the shorter lengths of beds historically, while it was previously assumed that people were just shorter! (this might be complete rubbish, but I seem to remember reading it somewhere)

Sleeping in a reclining, or even upright seated position is practised by sleep and dream yogis. Such a sleeping position leads to higher incidence of isolated sleep paralysis disorder and some have speculated that this custom accounts for many literary and historical 'hauntings' centred around the bed, like in Wuthering Heights in which the conditions of the haunting fit the description of sleep paralysis quite well.

^ Interesting - both parts. About people being generally shorter in the past - isn't most medieval armor made for men averaging about 5 feet or so?
