      Language for techniques

      Hello everyone.

My first language is Spanish, but from several years ago I've found myself thinking in English more and more. I don't consume my country's TV, I don't listen to radio, and all the media I read/watch/listen is always in English. I also speak Polish at home for family reasons, but less.

That being said, what about the mantras/instructions/suggestions I use? It's ok when they're in English? That's what I've been doing, because my brain is determined to "live" in english. But yesterday, for example, when I lost count backwards to relax, I found myself mixing English and Spanish numbers.

Also, I remembered when I studied hypnosis a little, that they always recommended the suggestions were in the natural language of the person going under, and I was wondering what do you think when it comes to our techniques and procedures.

      Thank you all.

I have the same thing! I'm Dutch, but I also talk and chat a lot in English. My Mantra's are Dutch personally, though I think they would also work in English. Half of the time I think in English anyway. I even noticed I dream in English a lot. So I would say, whatever feels right for you.

Though I'm not sure xD I'm interested to know if anyone ever tried out a Mantra that's not in their Native language.

My opinion is that language has no importance, but intention or feeling has. If you count "One, two, three" or "Uno, dos, tres" or "Um, dois três" it's all the same thing. You know that you are counting upwards.
If you think of a mantra in spanish, english, a mixture of polish and elfic language... it doesn't matter, as long as you know what you are saying or as along as you "feel" what you want to do.

      Eh I do wonder.

For a long while I had really bad recall problems because I would think of dreams in English upon waking up, since I only journal in English but am a Spanish-person that would make me forget details. Silly journaling and its side-effects <.<

I believe the mind is more adaptive towards the native languages, since the language has been hardwired into your brain from childhood. I do all of my mantras in my native language.

Yeah it works, my native language is Czech, but I rather simpler mantra and shorter.. so I am using English mantras and there are more effective for me. You can even thing a new word and use it as a mantra.. if you know what that should mean.

That is actually a pretty smart approach towards mantras. Although I believe the mantra would require some relation towards the actual point of the mantra, it could work. Something like "Reality", "Lucid", "Remember" or as simple as "Dream".
