How often do you have lucid dreams?

Hi everyone, I need some help!

Ive been trying to have a lucid dream every night for about 2 weeks now but haven't managed it. Ive been doing reality checks and keeping a dream diary but still nothing. How long does it normally take to have your first lucid dream? And how often do most people have them once they're good at it?

Hey, welcome to the forum. =]

Some people get lucky and have an LD right away after hearing about it, some take a while. I think it all depends on your current lifestyle / mindset.

It's great that you're doing RCs, but you have to remember that an RC is just a way to check if you're dreaming, it's something you do after you already realised that you might be in a dream to make sure that you're right, so you should work on the mindset of questioning reality rather than just RCs.

It's also important to have good dream recall, the more detailed your recall the better, so practice things like asking yourself "what was I just dreaming about?" as soon as you wake up, you have to get used to remembering dreams, even if it's just 1 dream a night, I think if it's really detailed that is already good enough.

How long it takes depends on the person, I think the most important factor is how well you know yourself; what I mean by this is how in-tune are you with your mind, if you just cruise through the day on auto-mode without really noticing what's going on around / inside you then it might be a lot harder to for example get DILDs.

Same with amount of LDs, all depends on how much you get into it I guess and if you use a working technique. I tend to have a bit of a different opinion from some other dreamers that say that you should just stick to something for months until it starts to work, normally you'll notice something if you're using the technique right, for example increase in dream quality / better memory / almost-lucid moments or just a feeling that you are improving. If these are missing or you work on your skills without thought then I think even if you do one thing for 10 years you'll have trouble. On the other hand if you are mindful of what you're doing and take note of your experiences and know yourself then you can lay down a path that will get you there faster. I wouldn't be surprised if you can start LDing every night within a few months if you can just find those things that make it "go" for you.

So read up on all the different techniques, take some time to get a feel for what you think will work for you and don't worry about it.

Personally I'd definitely suggest trying to WILD / SSILD, I think you can certainly get 1 or 2 lucids a week through that at the start. DILDs are really dependent on too many factors that nobody will know except you, all the DILD techniques really just point you in the right direction, WILD on the other hand is more or less the same for everyone and is mostly under our conscious control.

      Good luck!

The amount of time it takes to induce your first lucid is different for everyone; some people get it the first day, some take months. It took me 8 years to induce 1 lucid lol
So yeah, I would worry less about the failure and more about the success you are having, like better dream recall, more awareness in dreams and the like.

Hukif, I've always been so curious, it took you 8 years man to have your first Lucid Dream. And now you have thousands of them, Id imagine you have them frequently. What did you do to get this good man? What technique do you use? Just curious cause I wanna be that good some day soon

I got my first LD after reading an article about this dreaming (never heard of it before). But that was some random luck because after that I didn't get lucid dreams frequently, had to practice, practice and practice and still I haven't reached really vivid and frequent lucid dreams.
