      Lucid Dream Late Bloomer???

I feel like I may be a bit of a lucid dreaming late bloomer, I have had many OBE's and such but it wasn't until just a few nights ago that I had my first lucid dream. I wanted to share it and get any feed back I possibly could.

So in the dream I was standing in what appeared to be a pitch black room, I couldn't see any walls, windows or doors. But in the center of the room was this very old dead tree, its branches were curled up ward and reached pretty high up and the roots were buried into black soil. I remember looking at the tree then the seeing the roots and seeing my bare feet in the soil and dirty then looking up and seeing this owl sitting on a branch just watching me. I could then feel the cold soil and a slight wind on my face and knowing I was asleep and dreaming! I looked at the owl and cocked my head to one side and the owl mimicked me, then twitched it's head the other way and I mimicked it. Then I repeated to myself, "Owl, owl, owl, owl...." then woke and whispered to myself "Owl." I have been trying for some time now to have a lucid dream, but this was nothing like what I thought I would have! Should I be worried or scared? Please any insight or thoughts are welcome!

I actually have a somewhat interesting reason for why that may have been your first lucid dream. I think that the dream was symbolic of... well your first lucid dream. Black void with only one dead tree in it is symbolic of your dream plane. There isn't really much in there yet, probably because you're just taking your first tentative steps into LDing. And owls are symbolic of wisdom and knowledge (Perhaps the knowledge that you are dreaming.) And the owl mimicking you means that it is connected to you. In other words, the owl mimicking you is a sign that you have connected with the idea of lucid dreaming.

JadeGreen, I was actually talking to a co worker about this dream and he pretty much said the same thing! In the dream I was very aware of what was going on and I wasn't frightened or worried. I felt very relaxed and even at ease, maybe more than I ever have felt! The next morning when I woke up I felt refresehed, and is probably the best nights sleep I have ever gotten! Since then though I have not had any more LD experiences, and as I stated in my intro thread I very rarely (mostly never) remember any dreams, so this just stuck with me. I also have not slept that soundly since my first LD experience

UPDATE: So I have been thinking about what I may have done differently this night that I had my LD experience and while browsing through the threads I came across some post about taking Melatonin. I did in fact take some this night before I went to bed, however I have taken it before and had no reaction nor did it make me sleepy. This particular night however I took 4 1mg of Melatonin. I did not honestly think that this would have any effect on me, but it did help me to become sleepy and I feel asleep quickly. Could this be what helped me to have my LD?

I couldn't say so myself. I have never used any substances to aid my LDs.

I wasn't actually using this as an aid to LD I only used it to help me to actually fall asleep. I have not been sleeping very well for like the past few months and I had taken Melatonin before but only 1mg. While talking to a co worker about my sleep pattern she recommend that I try a higher dose. So that night I took 4 of my 1mg, just hoping that I would be able to get a better nights sleep. As far as taking them to induce LDing I had no idea until I started reading around the forums.
Also as a bit of an update, I took the same dosage last night to see if it would help me sleep again and also to see if it would help induce a LD. My results were not good. I got little to no sleep, but I did have very vivid dreams, none that I can really recall though and none that I would say were LDs.
