      Half-awake reality check

So I actually only started doing RCs yesterday. I've been counting my fingers, pushing my thumb into my palm, and plugging my nose. Last night, when I did an RC it was like I was seeing both the real world and the dream world. I saw a translucent, hologram-like image of my thumb passing through my palm, and at the same time i was seeing a more solid image of my thumb not passing through. I could see my room and my bed in the real vision, but my hands in-dream were like floating in space. My eyes were closed, and when I opened them my hands were down, not raised in RC like I envisioned. I actually think it happened more than once last night, but I can hardly remember.

I didn't expect to gain lucidity after only half a day of RCs, but it was quite disappointing to think I might have gotten so close. Is this a normal occurrence among people who practice DILD?

Not a normal one, or at least it doesn't happens often unless I am already in SP.
I think iti s a problem of RCs where you need to move, so you could perhaps try doing some motionless RCs?

So are you saying that the movement of my hands could be waking me up? Because normally I never use my hands in dreams. Even if I need to defend myself from something, I won't put my hands out to stop it. It's like they're virtually useless, but I've accepted that, so I can understand how using them in a dream could wake me up. Do you recommend any motionless RCs? I plan to start looking at my nose from the corner of my eyes and closing the air pipe in my throat. Hopefully it works!

Okay so last night in my dream, I was like "hmm i think I might be dreaming," so I looked down at my nose and it was there????? so I just shrugged it off I guess... I still like knew I was in a dream but I didn't go lucid...

      Hi,

The problem might be the way how you perform Reality Checks. Thought that is uncertain, you can aswell just wait and see more results of your practice
When doing RCs you should be mindful and aswell should try to truly consider whether your dreaming or not.
It might be just that you don't belive that reality check could really work when you practice them.

Also: When Reality Check gives you the answer Your Dreaming and your doubtful in that you can try looking around the place and try to find something weird enough to be impossible in waking life which can prove that is is 100% a dream (You can play with basic Dream Control aswell)
