Is Lucid Dreaming possible without confidence?

I discovered Lucid Dreaming a few months ago and instantly knew that it was something I needed in my life, both so I could live out the fantasies that I daydreamed about and to be able to conquer my fears and things like that. However, I've constantly gone off and on with it. At first, I didn't understand any of the techniques and thought they were too hard so I just listened to sleep hypnosis videos when I went to bed and thought that would work. It didn't...at all. When I actually tried to do some of the techniques, I either forgot to do them or just half assed them. Then there are the times when things happen in life that just make me think that I can't do anything, including Lucid Dreaming. Even on normal days, it feels like doing something so seemingly complex would take more concentration and ability that I have. My lack of confidence prevents me from thinking that I can do these things. So now I wonder if it's possible at all if I don't have the confidence to fully, truly believe that I can do this. If it's impossible with my mindset, then I might as well stop wasting my time...

      Hey Jaden!

Well good news and good news: It's totally possible to LD without confidence. Most people's first lucid dreams are totally by accident. I had lucid dreams on and off from the age 8 - 30 without even knowing it was a thing. I was just like "Oh I'm still in a dream, it's just very realistic." Then when I found dreamviews, I started talking to members about techniques, and keeping a journal, practicing awareness etc. I did alot of it half-assed (still do lol), but I had some beginner's luck there too. I think what helped me the most was just talking to folks about it, and getting involved with the lucid dreaming community. That made me think of LDing alot which I believe helped me be more aware, which aided in more lucids. Also, and for me this is HUGE: finding the right amount of sleep that is conducive to ME having lucid dreams. Different for everybody, but for me it's sleeping for about 6 or 7 hours, waking up and staying awake for about 30-45 minutes, then going back to sleep, all the while thinking of lucid dreaming.

So you can get lucky and LD without having alot of confidence, or really trying, that's the good news.

The other good news is, once you start LDing, you may find that in order to keep getting those lucids, you'll have to put in more work. But by then, you'll have more confidence because you will have had some luck with it, and you'll be more likely to stick to it to get the results you want. And this website has endless resources for that, as well as members and staff who are here everyday to help you with it. When I first joined DV, I had one fantasy, a single dream that I wanted to be able to visit and revisit whenever I wanted. Focusing on that one thing helped to keep me motivated. I'm by no means a person who lucid dreams every single night, I get lazy, I get lucky, but I keep focused on what I want to do in my lucid dreams. And if you want it bad enough, you'll get lucky. And once you get lucky, you'll be more inclined to do the work to get more LDs.

Hope that made sense. Hit me up any time if you want any help or advice or whatever, and good luck!

Yeah confidence is not a need so much as a plus.

After years of trying and having no luck I had lost confidence and still pushed forward simply because it was my only option at the time, and now it is much much easier to LD.
