Lucid dreaming is like viewing a stereograph...

I was enjoying a wall of public stereographs on my a walk today, I've always been pretty "good" at viewing them since I can control my focus distance fairly easily, and I noticed something...

The first time the first image came into stereo focus, it felt like becoming lucid in a dream! All of a sudden out of the vague haziness there was depth and clarity! It was a good stereograph: it gave you something concrete to focus on (a recognizable row of flowers) but at stereo focus hidden animals which were entirely invisible at normal focus in the background became visible. It was a total trip.

Maintaining the stereogram is like maintaining lucidity -- you must maintain the correct focus: lightly, not forcing it, but with some attention to the image you're viewing.

In fact I thought it was an interesting exercise, maintaining the stereo focus on the picture while bringing awareness of peripheral vision all around me at the same time.

That is quite interesting (had to Google stereograph ya old man), but with things like "magic eye" and telephone cords and a few other things that require the same focus so you can get the image to "pop", I thought it was similar to an LD focus as well. The "more real than real" feeling when you are looking at one object that is actually more than one object.

^^ Whippersnappers these days, no respect, I tell ya, no respect! In my day we had to walk 20 miles through the snow in order to lucid dream, and WE LIKED IT! (And *who* was it who got lucid last night, sonny boy?)

Ah, these are so awesome, I think I may add viewing these as a part of quiet contemplation during the day ....
Some may need to be zoomed on the monitor in order for them to work if your screen is very high resolution.

(I find the original images as opposed to the ones here on the DV in this message are easier to see correctly).

Wow what a coincidence, FryingMan. I had this exact idea literally 2 days ago!

I was sitting in a library and looking at a sort of grid-like partition. I blurred my eyes for a moment and tried to view it as a stereograph. When I did, it came strongly into focus and I thought “hey, this is a lot like vision in a lucid dream”. I thought about how very clear it looked and how trying to maintain the stereograph image was similar to trying to maintain lucidity, just like you said.

I was surprised when I saw that you'd come up with this and posted a thread about it, right after my library event. Have you been reading my mind? Ha.

But I do agree, especially when looking directly at something in a LD, it looks very clear and almost as if it would change or disappear if you didn't focus on it properly, just like a stereograph.

That's pretty amazing, like when sometimes people dream about the same thing (not like a TOTM common task), which happens sometimes.

Haha. I had like 6 dreams last night. Gonna have tons of LDs now. Party time!!!

I love those things. They really are similar to the feeling of LDing.

Great. Even stereographs seem old-timey to the kids these days? Then however am I going to explain my stereoscope?!

Weird times that must have been.

How walking through the snow helps build recall and awareness, I guess I simply don't understand.
