      Arrow Lucid Dreaming Fiction/Films?

      Hello DVers,

      1) Have any of you read any good fiction on lucid dreaming? I do not know of a single novel. I know plenty of nonfiction on lucid dreaming, but no fiction. So I would be very interested in finding out any novels, short stories even on lucid dreaming. Anything you can think of let me know.

2 ) Or how about any films on lucid dreaming?

Here are the films that I recently found after some digging about lucid dreaming. I suggest them all to everyone here and they would be great to add to your lucid dreaming education. I have seen a few of them and plan to see them all of course. If you know of any not on these lists let me know. I even found Nightmare on Elm Street 3 : Dream Warriors to be good and related to dream sharing. So they don't have to be about lucid dreaming specifically but as long as they are about related subjects like dreaming, nightmares, insomnia, dream sharing, astral projection., etc. please let me know I would be greatly interested, as I love these subjects related to sleep or lack there of.

Links to same website, that sells tutorials, removed. Please, if you want to talk about movies, there is no need to link them to site that sells them. Just post the title and people will find it.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It's a long haul so don't start it unless you like reading, but it's worth it if you do. A huge part of the series takes place in Tel'aran'rhiod, the "World of Dreams" -- they're lucid dreaming! If I remember correctly that doesn't really get going until book 2 or 3 though.

Yesterday I found this amazing book.
Please read the sample or buy it for less than $4 on amazon. 31 five stars reviews.
It's fiction but with a lot of real stuff about LD. Give it try and read at least the sample.
Search on amazon by The Sexual Adventures of Time and Space [Kindle Edition]
      Brian Sfinas (Author)

      Book Description
The Sexual Adventures of Time and Space is an epistolary novel told in the form of excerpts from a young man’s journal. After a group of friends becomes addicted to the concept of lucid dreaming, they find a way to medically induce themselves into comas with the goal of extending their lucid experiences. When things get out of hand and someone dies, the friends must find a way to cover it up.

      Anime: sword art online
      movie: waking life (mandatory!)

Books: Eragon is great if you're looking for dream control inspiration (it has a really original view on magic).

Though your lists are pretty comprehensive, Strangedream, here are a couple more movies that might deserve some attention:

      The Last Wave

      Stay

      The Lathe of Heaven

      Sublime

As for books, I've got but one: Winter's Tale, by Mark Helprin (there's even a thread on this site about it).

      Vanilla Sky, Inception, for films

For books, The Chronicles of Amber, it's actually not at all about lucid dreaming, but it's very lucid-dream like and my favorite book series of all time. Its world is a reality inside a reality inside a reality that the princes of Amber can manipulate and control much as if it were a dream, and they treat it as if it were a dream.

How to put simply that which is not a simple thing . . . ?
Solipsism, I suppose, is where we have to begin—the
notion that nothing exists but the self, or, at least, that
we cannot truly be aware of anything but our own
existence and experience. I can find, somewhere, off in
Shadow, anything I can visualize. Any of us can. This, in
good faith, does not transcend the limits of the ego. It
may be argued, and in fact has, by most of us, that we
create the shadows we visit out of the stuff of our own
psyches, that we alone truly exist, that the shadows we
traverse are but projections of our own desires. . . .
Whatever the merits of this argument, and there are
several, it does go far toward explaining much of the
family’s attitude toward people, places, and things
outside of Amber. Namely, we are toymakers and they,
our playthings—sometimes dangerously animated, to be
sure; but this, too, is part of the game. We are
impresarios by temperament, and we treat one another
accordingly. While solipsism does tend to leave one
slightly embarrassed on questions of etiology, one can
easily avoid the embarrassment by refusing to admit the
validity of the questions. Most of us are, as I have often
observed, almost entirely pragmatic in the conduct of
      our affairs. Almost . . .
Yet—yet there is a disturbing element in the picture.
There is a place where the shadows go mad. . . . When
you purposely push yourself through layer after layer of
      Shadow, surrendering—again, purposely—a piece of
your understanding every step of the way, you come at
last to a mad place beyond which you cannot go. Why
do this? In hope of an insight. I’d say, or a new game . .
. But when you come to this place, as we all have, you
realize that you have reached the limit of Shadow or the
end of yourself—synonymous terms, as we had always
      thought. Now, though . . .

I saw Vanilla Sky was mentioned, but don't forget the original 'Abre Los Ogos' aka Open your Eyes (1997). Personally I enjoyed the Tom Cruise remake (Vanilla Sky) but as far as films go (that I know of)
this one definitely delves the most into Lucid Dreaming. It's certainly a left - field movie but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Is this the series you speak of? The Great Book of Amber: The Complete Amber Chronicles, 1-10 (Chronicles of Amber): Roger Zelazny

Please, do not post links to merchandise. Just a title of a book is enough, people will find it without a link. Thank you.

Of course I always watch the original film first.

Assuming you read the entire Wheel of Time series where should I start, I mean do I have to start with Book One in the Wheel of Time series or can I read 2 and 3 , is book 1 necessarily in later books. Will I miss a lot by skipping Book 1? For example since I'm huge into lucid dreaming will I miss anything important going straight too the lucid dream books, book 2and 4?

^^ And, I personally always felt the Amber books (especially the first three) were about lucid dreaming, in that Amber was waking life, and the shadows were all dreams. I suppose Plato aficionados would think differently, but Corwin's adventures sure seemed like LD's to me...

This is not a series dedicated to lucid dreaming at all, but i want to say that if you also like sci-fi, you should watch the Stargate-SG1 series. I was amazed on the number of episodes dedicated to lucid dreaming, the subconscious, meditation, ascension, OBE and similar subjects.

Yes. You might think it's completely unrelated to a subject like lucid dreaming, but not only it has some amazing dream control tips/explanations (pure coincidence ofc), but also gives some tips on awareness. I was delighted that when I discovered certain aspect of lucid dreams that some I would immediately remind myself of that series (yay to juvenile fantasy books )

That's a good idea. I should of added television to my topic name as well. Another related show is Fringe which I think is great. I recall they had episodes related to LDing. I'll try to find their episode names.

Never saw Dreamscape. I'm surprised I haven't seen it since I was around during the 90s and watched 80s films as well. Thanks for recommendation.

Any more? I'm so excited... I want more to read and watch on the subject. In any case this should keep me busy for some time. Thanks everyone..if you come across any more let me know. Cheers! :-)

      You're welcome, Strangedream.

I bought the DVD on Ebay for .99USD.

It's a pre-CGI movie, so the effects are dated by today's standards, but it's still a fun movie with some good moments.

Wow you scored with that price!

I love CGI too, who doesn't? But people seem to forget they did the best with what they had. The lack of CGI gave them more time to delve deeper into plot, dialog, etc. in older films. A lot of today's films have all this great CGI but horrible plots, dialogue. Film directors today need to start to combine the two better then they are currently doing, and take film making to a new level.
