      Looking in a mirror

      Hey everyone

I found myself in a LD last and it was insanely lucid, I still cant quite believe that my mind could of constructed the level of detail I saw. Anyway, ive heard a few people talk about looking in mirrors in lucid dreama and so I decided to have a go.
Looking at myself in the mirror I looked exactly like me however there was one anomaly,. Where my eyes where was very blurry and I had 4 eyes (2 above 2).

I believe that that was a very literal manifestation of an insecurity by my sub conscious as reciently ive had to wear glasses (I usually wear contacts) and i was feeling a little down about it.

Anyway I was just wondering what people thought and if anyone has any similar experiences?

      Peace

      Congrats on the lucidity!

People have lots of different experiences with mirrors.
For me, sometimes it's a big difference, but often it's subtle, like my hair is a different colour or it's hard to focus.
Sometimes there is no visible difference at all, but I'll have a feeling of discomfort looking at myself, like there's something disturbing about the image even if I can't identify it.

      *Moved to General Lucid Discussion*
Let me know if you'd like to delve more deeply into the meaning of your dream and I can move it to Dream Interpretation.

Na I'm happy to keep it open for general discussion thanks , like I say I think i saw a very literal manifestation of an insecurity that I have.

One thing that blew me away though was how 'real' it was, usually when I LP i know I'm dreaming and my 'reality' seems like a dream but in the dream last night I remember thinking 'whatever this is it seems too real to be a dream', the level of detail and the tangibility was incredible, its hard to describe, it almost felt like the 'dream reality' was more real than the physical,.
I also tried quite hard to AP/OBE but to no avail.

I've definitely had that experience of hyperrealistic dreams, where I'm sure there's more clarity and detail than there is in waking life.
Maybe I'm just more mindful and observant in dreams, but it does seem like a whole different level of vision sometimes.

I think I've actually had a couple similar experiences with looking into mirrors. Several years ago, I used to like to look at myself in mirrors a lot when lucid because I would always see really interesting stuff, I thought it was interesting anyways. But one time I looked in the mirror and I had 8 eyes like a spider. And that actually scared me a little because of my whole deal with being scared of the spiders, but I also felt really guilty because I had killed a few spiders at the time. Thinking back on it now, maybe that was a way for me to see myself as being like the spiders that I was killing. The whole unconscious insecurity manifesting as four eyes is really neat too, I think. I used to see myself as looking very demonic in dream-mirrors because that's kind of how I thought of myself.

I think mirrors in dreams are a very interesting tool to see some insecurities or expectations that we might not be aware of on the surface of our conscious experience. But I suppose dreams in general are useful for that stuff.

I looked in the mirror for the first time recently, as well. I wasn't thinking about seeing anything strange; I just saw it and looked out of instinct. I looked pretty much like myself, except the faces I made were completely different from the ones in the mirror. If I made a goofy face, for instance, the ace in the mirror was pensive. I felt like the mirror was mocking me! It was kind of off-putting, but not scary in the least. Also, a random, unrelated experience. Clocks, I've known, are always random and impossible, which is entertaining, too! For some reason in that same dream I thought I'd try drawing a clock to see if it was possible, and it was. Do you know of any other things that don't "work" during dreams that I could try out when lucid?

I recently used a mirror in a dream to comb my hair, since my hair was way too long and matted. Even though I could tell it was supposed to be me, my reflection didn't look like me at all! I wasn't bothered by that fact though, and it was a non-lucid dream anyways.

When I once looked into a mirror in a lucid dream it was just my reflection like normal however my eyes looked like I was panicking, large and stressed, which is weird because i was quiet calm.

I've looked into mirrors a few times, but can't remember very many of them.

Though, at one time I looked and I had dirty blonde hair and either blue or green eyes, and very tan skin. It was a very unattractive look, though.

The other night I had a lucid dream and thought about another post similar to this. I looked much much shorter, probably only about 4 to 5 feet. My facial features were extremely sharp and my hair was this platinum/purple. Almost exactly like Meep from American Horror Story although slightly tuned to look like me!

I've had a lucid dream where the entire experience was heavily detailed... down to full peripheral vision in the dream itself.

When I saw myself in the mirror, it was a younger version of me but it was definitely me.

What's the common explanation for seeing oneself in the mirror while lucid dreaming? Or is it just up for interpretation?

Mirrors reflect. According to me, the image in the mirror is a reflection of yourself - your fears, insecurities and in general - a reflection of yourself on how you see yourself.
When I am in a LD, sometimes i'm not quite sure if i am dreaming, so i do a check using mirrors. I find a mirror (if it's nearby), and look at myself. Then I try to inflate my head If my head inflates then i know that i'm dreaming.
When i look at mirrors i see myself without any distortions, the only thing that is different is usualy my hair is a bit longer than it is in reality. That can be explained by the fact that i want my hair to be longer. Perhaps if i had the desire to look like a tiki mask in reality maybe then in dreams my face would be made of wood or somethin'

Mirrors are super tricky! They can expose many things, they work in mysterious ways in dreams :p

Oof I hate mirrors in dreams. I looked into one once and I got this feeling of dread. I saw myself only slowly changing into some kind of demonic like figure. Then I got scared and ignored it, so I wouldn't wake up. I first thought it must mean I see myself as a bad person. Though I actually quite like myself and I think I am quite a good person in general So now I think it was more of an expectation thing. I had read all about these strange dream mirrors and I got myself scared of what I would get to see.

That's just my personal experience. Dream mirrors can be tricky things

I think if you want to communicate with your subconcious a mirror can help you with that. Though I'd say that would just be a manifestation of you expecting to talk to your subconcious in the mirror. You could possibly do the same with any DC. If you expect to find your subconcious in a random squirrel then that would become your subconcious.

I can see how using a mirror would make it a little easier, since you already expect to see yourself. Well, unless you see your demon-self like me of course :p

A DC is a Dream Character. It could be anyone or even any animal.

Hey Everyone, again,. sorry for so long without a post,. my dedication has been lacking.

So I had a lucid dream this morning and again decided to try and look at myself in the mirror, it was a little strange. The reflection of me looked just like me so there was nothing strange there, I decided to talk to myself as I've read about this being a good way to communicate with your subconscious. I asked myself 'Are you OK' (really meaning, 'am I ok') and my reflections shook its head. I said 'why' and my reflection spoke to me but it made no sound so I didnt catch what it said, I repeated the question and then stared at my reflections lips, it seemed to say 'I am growing'. I repeated back to my reflection '"growing"?', it nodded its head and then (silently) repeated the word 'growing' and made an expanding gesture with its hands - like the hands facing each other opening up and moving away from each other.

Now I have some insecurities atm about my age and the fact that I feel like I've not achieved the things I wish I had so I think thats probably what my subconscious was talking about but I'd love to hear peoples take on this - I guess I was hoping that my subconscious would tell me that I am ok and my insecurities don't matter :/

ALSO - does anyone know why my reflection/subconscious was silent?? it was a little weird and a little annoying.

soon after this i slipped back into a non lucid dream.

      Cheers all

Well you are your subconscious deep down. So what you see in the mirror is your idea of yourself i.e. your ego, and your ego is insecure about growing. Actual you i.e. your aware subconsciousness is absolutely fine and doesn't know what the word insecurity even means. That's my take on this, I've never looked in a mirror in an ld though, but I will now.

Hum, I've never tried a mirror. Not that I've tried many things (xD), but I like the idea. Once I'm through asking DC's if they know everything is a dream and what do they think about it, I'll try the mirror .

About your doubt, jjstubbs, and given my inexperience, I would say that you couldn't hear your reflection, because maybe you have problems hearing your subconscious (that would be something like hearing your instincts, maybe). I believe our subconscious knows a lot more than our conscious does, so maybe it is trying to teach you something that you have to learn. The little I know about spiritual growth has a lot to do with following your instincts and the little signs your mind (or your life) gives you. I would say there's a connection between your mirror-self and these instincts/mind/life.

But, again, I am no expert, at all, in the matter. If you're really lost in the meaning, I would suggest posting your dream in the Dream Interpretation subforum .

      Good luck!
