WILD when going to sleep...regularly ?

Yesterday night I had a WILD when I was going to sleep. After 3 times DEILD. All together the LD-ing was no longer then 5-10 minutes (OK I know, no REM). It was nice, I tried out some things.

This is sometimes happening with me because of the intensive meditations what I make before sleep. It looks like after a time I will find it normal that I don’t daydream (zoomed out in fantasy land) before I fall asleep. I begin to enjoy the challenge in staying aware.
If somebody stays motivated and persistent, plus the power for gently pushing his capabilities, then after a time he/she will always start the night with a WILD. Or not?

For me it is not a problem to give +1 hour to the night. I am not sure how long I meditate, but sometimes I think it is around one hour. I think the trick for making it shorter is very deep relaxation.
The meditation is worth. The LD is short, but for me (as a beginner) it is cool. If I don’t feel fatigue, I continue with my night time meditations.

I am not sure you would have one every night, but you can often have short non REM lucid dreamlets at bedtime. It is entertaining and worth doing.

      Hi sivason !

I know that the dream yogis try to uncover the illuson on all levels, and to rule on it with the one and only. The question is: are they going for 24 hour awareness? Are they expecting to fall asleep lucid? It is not my aim, I am just interested in it. Maybe I must ask Sageous. He was writing, that he done the whole night lucid thing. My question is (same for the dream yogis): Can you do it when you want? If not, is this your aim? I see your LD count, so maybe you have some thoughts about this.

^^ No need to ask me, as Sivason's got more than enough wisdom and experience to answer those questions well. As long as I'm here, though:

Though I only managed to remain self-aware straight through the night a handful of times (long ago, when I was still young, strong, and motivated to do so), I did have a routine for a couple of years of starting my night with a WILD attempt (also long ago -- I didn't' even know at the time I was WILDing). I certainly didn't succeed every time (I have a feeling even sleep yogis doze occasionally), but I did succeed often, and learned some things about exploring Delta Sleep/NREM in the process (including patience). Now to your questions (as long as I'm here):

I'm not sure about dream yogis, but sleep yogis do hold 24-hour self-awareness/mindfulness as a goal, and they are expecting to fall asleep lucid as often as possible. I like to think that I can still WILD at the beginning of my sleep cycle when I want to, but these days (thanks to an aging and unkempt body and a difficult to wrangle memory) I have to really want to: I still try often, but only pull it off a couple of times a year, usually during my periods of intense lucid activity. It is still my long-term aim to WILD at bedtime whenever wish to do so, and always my short-term aim to work harder to recoup the skills I took for granted 30 years ago. I also still attempt to remain highly lucid throughout the night as often as possible... I don't recommend expecting to do it all the time, though; be happy with what you get!

tl;dr: Sivason's answers will likely be better than mine, but yes, I can WILD at the beginning of my sleep cycle when I really want to do so, and put in some serious effort, and yes, such activity is at the top of my long-term goals list... as it is with the sleep yogis.

I doubt anyone wants to be aware 24 hours a day. Time passes in a weird way during conscious sleep. Do not picture it as non stop lucid dreams. The very nature of some sleep phases are that thought in the standard sense almost ceases. I like to sleep and would not want day time awareness to last all night. I expect many phases of sleep (even while conscious) to slip by with no internal monologue (thinking). There is value in what you may call oblivion sleep. I do not even like to pay that much attention during conscious sleep most of the time, instead letting the mind be playful and just casually observing with little thought the odd nature of passing images. Maybe it is different with some yogi. Some can be real hard asses on themselves, and take life much too seriously. I don't know if that makes much sense; I think it might.

On the subject of WILD at bedtime, you simply need to accept that the experience will be different. A successful WILD at this stage may not involve any form of Dream Body, and may be nothing more than a feeling of flying while viewing the rippling water of a lake pass by. Attempts at control may have no more effect other than to create a feeling of changing direction or causing the colors to shift. You may find yourself suddenly in a dream body but it is like a scene that you are not really in, and then it lasts only half a minute. That sort of thing. Still an interesting experience, but a different one.

      sivason and Sageous !

Thank you! I understand. It is good to have a higher aim, but it is not good trying to reach it through gritted teeth. Relaxed confidence. Staying persistent and enjoying every little step.

I will try my WILDs, always when I have possibility (+ the mood is OK). It is simply exciting and challenging !
