Been tryibg lucid dreaming for 8 months, no sucess

I cant believe I've been on this forum for 3/4 year, I've learned some cool stuff but one of my biggest issue is that I havent had a single lucid dreaming (Ive been close) since I knew about it (8 months ish). Which is pretty frustrating and annoying since most new users get theirs fairly quickly.

Ive had periods where Id spend more time on lucid dreaming than other but this is what i've been doing for atleast one month:

      - consistent dream recall: 1 dream per night remembered
      - reality checks few times a day
      - few WILD attemps

All that and no lucid dream. It kind of makes me unmotivated, somewhere I haven't done something right. My attitude towards lucid dreaming is fairly good though.

      Any tips for me? Thanks.

The thing that works best for me might work good for you to.

      1. Do about 8 - 10 reality checks per day, just look at your hands for 10 seconds and ask yourself "Am I dreaming now", then if not, "nope but maybe next time!".

      2. WBTB - The key to lucid dreaming. Set your alarm to wake you up 6 hours after you fall asleep, so add an extra 15 minutes. Then you wake up, write down what you just dreamed, then go pee (if you need to) then go back to bed and sit up in your bed for an hour, read on dreamviews or an lucid book for 50 - 55 minutes and the last 10 or 5 minutes your gonna look at your hands and speak out "tonight i will have an lucid dream", tonight i will have an lucid dream" and repeat that. Then go to bed again and think a little at lucid dreaming, not to much because that might keep you awake.

By staying up 1 hour it will make it harder to fall asleep, maybe up to an hour but when you finally fall asleep you will have an high chance to lucid dream, and false awakenings occur often when doing this (atleast for me).

Try this method for 1 week and see if you will succeed.

Improve your dream awareness. I've you're aware of only 1 dream a night, you'll only get 1 chance a night for a DILD. If you become aware of 5 dreams a night, you'll improve your chances that many times. To improve you're dream awareness, you need to get in the habit of noticing your dreams. Your dreams are there! Notice them!

^^ Very important! You need to *know* that you dream a lot during every night, and that the dreams are all there, ripe for the picking, you just need to *pay attention* to them, be aware of them, then you'll start remembering them, and then you'll feel "present" in the dream. When you are "there" in your dream, that's when you can be lucid!

You practice paying attention to dreams by paying attention to waking life. Both dreaming and waking consciousness are basically the same thing in many ways: we dream about our thoughts and daytime activities: so, don't be an autopilot-zombie, become aware while awake to become aware while dreaming!

Have a look at my Dream Recall Tips, maybe you'll find something in there inspiring or new to you to try out.

Especially in the beginning, the key to remembering multiple dreams during the night is to notice the inter-sleep-cycle wakings and to use this time to practice recalling dreams and recording them. And I will confirm that WBTB is really, really effective in boosting the chances for a LD, considerably.

Do you have a workbook open in the DVA intro or DILD class? Do you participate in the WILD class there? If not, I highly recommend it, you can get individual feedback on your practice to help you tune it for maximum effectiveness.

Definitely start by focusing on recall.

I noticed wbtb works the best and got me the closest to a lucid dream.
I find it hard to remind myself to do reality checks, its not really something I think about a lot.

Seems like dream recall is pretty important. Should I purely focus on dream recall or add some wbtb or wild techniques once in a while?

Don't be discouraged! Take it from someone who knows. My first lucid dream was on August 2013, my second on October that year and my third wasn't until May 2014. I have to admit I slacked between my first two, but after the second I started trying harder and it took several months to see any actual results. After the third one, it became easier, I had one or two lucids per month. It's become easier since, now I have around four per month.

Keep in mind that the experience varies a lot from person to person. Some advice:
      1. Don't compare yourself to anyone, this isn't a competition
      2. Everything you do has a cumulative effect. It may not seem so, but trust me, at one point you'll start having lucids and it'll seem easier.
      3. Don't rush it. Enjoy your journey, no matter how long it takes.
      4. See the bigger picture. The only goal isn't to be lucid in your dreams, but also to be lucid in your waking life.

      Hope this helps

Yes, go to class of your choice in the DVA section >>HERE<<, and start a thread with your name in it, like "ToukieToucan's Intro class workbook" with some information about yourself and your goals, and the teachers will start working with you.

You can add some WBTB or WILD attempts any time you like. But building good dream recall is the basis for pretty much everything. LaBerge says to wait until you can recall at least one dream per night for 7-10 days in a row before beginning other techniques. With WILD in particular it is very beneficial to already be quite familiar with the "feeling" of dreams, and even having several LDs already via DILD.

You can start daytime awareness any time (critical reflection moments, reality checks, in general: paying attention.

You will. I went from having 2 lucid dreams in 9 months to having the other 47 lucid dreams in the following 15 months after that. At some point it will just click.

That's awesome. I know you said I shouldn't compare myself with other people but let's hope that I have the same situation as you had (first nearly any lucids, then frequent). It really makes me happier, so thanks.

Wow, Just a few days (or couple weeks) after I learned about lucid dreaming, I performed a FILD on first try! But it's not always as easy, I've only had 3 others since then... From my experiences, I suggest you try FILD, and do a lot of reality checks so you might induce a DILD. Good luck, and sweet dreams!
