Lucid Dream Experience - Sleep Paralysis Possibly?

      Hi,

I recently successfully became lucid in my dream a few nights ago. I am a beginner at lucid dreaming, and I got happy when I became lucid.

I used a video on YouTube (I can't post the link yet because I was not a member for 3 days yet):
Go to YouTube and search "BinauralBeatsHub Lucid Dream Wake Back To Bed" and it should be the first video there.
The video is called "Lucid Dream Induction (Night Time Induction or 'Wake Back To Bed') Lucid Dreaming Binaural Beats"

I had headphones in and of course, according to the description, the 12hz theta wave during the 25 minute mark of the video triggered full lucidity in my dream, which is what caused me to become randomly lucid.

So I started dreaming, my dream kept going on and then I just randomly realized I was lucid dreaming. As I got happy about it, I managed to see everything clearly and was able to control myself. I did stay calm, because I know the common beginner mistake where you wake up from getting overexcited.

Aside from that, even though I couldn't control anything or do anything (I probably need practice), I woke up about 30 seconds or so after I started the lucid dream. The 12hz theta wave is one minute long, triggering every 10 minutes. So when I woke up, I was likely at the stage where it was still performing the 12hz wave.

However, something was strange when I woke up. I kept my eyes closed and I didn't even try to move my body, so I'm not sure if I was in a state of Sleep Paralysis. So, I heard noises that sounded like they were coming from the audio I was listening to through my headphones. However, the sounds did not sound exactly like it was in the video. I know what the video sounds like. Anyway, when this "sound" went to a higher pitch/tone, I felt something like an electric "shock/vibration" and felt my head "jerk" a little bit from it. I didn't do anything about it anyway. I felt this "feeling" several times before I feel back asleep.

I did not try to move, I was not thinking about my breathing so breathing wasn't difficult, and I kept my eyes shut so I didn't see any hallucinations.

Was this Sleep Paralysis or something else? I'm not sure, but I did wake up during the short moment I was in a lucid dream. It's like, my mind woke up, but I'm not sure if my body did because I didn't try to do anything with my body. My eyes didn't even open when I woke up. I wonder if that was from the 12hz theta wave.

If this was Sleep Paralysis, which I think it was, then awesome! If I get it again, I can figure out how to get back into the lucid dream next time.

      Any answers/opinions are appreciated.

It doesn't sound like that was sleep paralysis to me, but rather just the sensations that we get while falling asleep.
They can sometimes feel like we're paralyzed but I think we're really just super relaxed so it's hard to move but we're not actually paralyzed at that point.
For a nice explanation of what Sleep Paralysis actually is, you should check out this thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...mystified.html

I don't think it was normal sensations for falling asleep. I do feel those really tiny vibrations all around my body if that's what you're talking about. However, this "vibration" wasn't really a vibration, but more of an "electrical shock". It was a strong shock, making it feel like my head jerked from it. This happened several times before I fell back asleep.

Someone told me earlier that some people feel vibrations, shocks, or buzzing in their ears or all over their body during Sleep Paralysis.

I'm not sure if it was actually Sleep Paralysis because I didn't open my eyes nor try to move. I guess it will remain a mystery then.

That just sounds like your typical hypnic jerk, those sometimes happen as you're falling asleep. These and the vibrations that you also described are totally normal when falling asleep, but we're usually already asleep by the time they happen, hence why we usually only notice them during WILD attempts.

I would advise reading the thread AnotherDreamer linked to, or this thread here: http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...explained.html

If I'm already dreaming and I wake up, how is it just a hypnic jerk? Is it because when I woke up, my body knew I woke up so it woke up as well, but it was still so relaxed that I was still getting that?

Ah, I misread your OP, I thought it was as you were falling asleep, not as you were waking up. In that case, it sounds like hypnopompic hallucinations. These are basically the same as hypnogogic, but they occur as you wake up as opposed to as you fall asleep. And just like hypnogogic hallucinations, they can be visual (such as seeing the room around you with your eyes closed), auditory (such as hearing voices), and/or tactile (such as feeling electricity or tingling sensations over your body), all of which are still not Sleep Paralysis-related.

For example, sometimes when I wake up from a nap, I'll have the feeling like my entire body's not there. It's like all my nerve endings on my skin aren't "switched on" yet, so I don't feel the bed or the blankets and it essentially feels like I'm floating. On occasions my limbs feel tingly, like when you cut off the blood circulation for too long. However, it's easy for me to break the feeling by simply moving my limbs, so it's very much not Sleep Paralysis.
