What do you hope to get out of Lucid Dreaming?

Straightforward thread title. Why do you practice lucid dreaming, and what do you hope to get out of it?

Will post my response once some discussion gets going, very much looking forward to see how people answer this question.

I like to lucid dream in order to practice controlling my own mind, to increase my awareness, and to explore the depths of my consciousness. It's also a ton of fun!

For me the answer changes as I change. When I started it was because I was curious and wanted to experience more. Things I had not yet known. I have then used lucid dreaming to answer questions about life, to learn more things about myself, to sort out personal problems, to find love... Ultimately I guess the greatest thing about lucid dreaming for me is FREEDOM. Therefore I don't really have any one expectation but I know that ultimately it has led to growth so it will lead to more growth!

Well, because it's incredible! I'm AWARE inside a DREAM. I have control over everything that happens, and I can do anything with only my imagination as the limit! I can do things that I could never do in real life, like fly, fight in a zombie apocalypse, surf on a gigantic wave, go to space, etc... It's just so cool ^_^

I practiced lucid dreaming so I could have fun and to learn things about myself.^^ It was especially nice to have people around me who enjoyed it as well.

I like the freedom I have in dreams. I can do whatever I want, literally anything. I can do things I'll probably never do IWL, like flying and breathing underwater. I also think it's a great way to practice upcoming events that I'm nervous about, so I'm prepared for them.

It's nice hearing from others what maes them interested in LDing. I too see incredible potential in lucid dreaming both for "work" (research) and pleasure.

After reading Gateway to the Inner Self by Robert Waggoner, I lucid dream to confront the dreamer of the dream, the conscious unconscious. Through lucid dreaming we have a greater awareness and can work with the so-called behind the scenes action of the dream. I guess ultimately the goal would be to dissolve the dream state to fully go past lucid dreaming and the illusion of dream figures, symbols, space, time, etc..

Although I haven't yet got the hang of lucid dreaming regularly, I can see the massive potential of it in many different ways.
In lucid dreams, I have generally just focused on having fun and doing pointless stuff just for the heck of it. Also sex.
However, I would like to be able to use lucid dreaming in order to find out more about myself and to test the limits of my imagination.
For now though, I don't mind just fooling around and having fun in the occasional opportunities (normally around once a fortnight) until LDs get more frequent.

I just think it's pretty freaking incredible. This concept is just so mind blowing to me so it's hard not to get into it!

While I have a fun life, I can lucid dream to achieve the impossible once in a while. I can be or do anything I want without people judging me or face unwanted circumstances. I get to own something that is absolutely impossible to have in real life.

I want to stay in contact and make love with every favourite sexy male fictional characters in anime or video games as my DC. Not the pretty boy kind though. They always have majestic physical characteristics.

Hmm I want to find out if there is something beyond the dream, meet my higher or an angel or find if there is something else there. Or get psychic abilities.
Also be cool to be my fav anime characters also. Bankai!

      First of all, great thread!

I got into lucid dreaming initially in an attempt to naturally cure my chronic anxiety (which I am happy to say has worked!). I used to have crippling anxiety attacks that seemed to occur out of no where. I did not want to go to a psychologist/take medication, and so I began searching for solutions elsewhere. It was around that time that I discovered DV!

Thanks to DV, I was able to learn all about LD's, AND I was able to confront the underlying causes of my chronic anxiety. After having tackled that obstacle, I began using lucid dreaming to explore the depths of my mind, pushing the limits. I also want to delve into some more spiritual journeys with the use of AP.

I'm happy that lucid dreaming has worked out for you, but it was rather foolish to avoid seeking professional help before resorting to "alternative" methods.

Much like the others, I try to have LD's to improve myself, become more aware of myself and do everything I have ever 'dreamt' of doing, even if it is impossible in real life.

If it worked, why call him foolish? A professional might have put him on Prozac
In this case I'd say clever!

To the OP, what a fantastic opportunity LDing is to explore!
The ultimate goal for me is to explore my subconscious, whatever that means....

Considering that I was rather young at the time, sure, I can see how that may not have been the BEST first choice. However, since it did work, I in no way regret how I chose to handle it.
