      Is this normal??

In my 2 years of Lding i havent been as on top with my dream recall as i am now.Its going great eccept iv noticed one difference which i dont mind just wondering if others get it.Ill go to sleep at night say 11pm then ill wake around 1am recalling a mad or normal dream....its brilliant for my recall but back when my recall was poor id just sleep all night. It seems that i must be psychologically waking up when my dream ends where as b4 i didnt recall a dream hence why i slept straight through.

Hmm, that's really interesting! I'm actually not sure if that's "normal" or not, but it's definitely useful. I wouldn't be surprised if it's common, though.

Maybe you always woke up but just didn't remember it?

It could be normal. I would typically sleep most of the way through the night (as far as I could tell). When I decided to go full swing with dream recall and start taking brief notes on every awakening, I just sort of went into a natural cycle of always waking up after most of my dreams. I never consciously planned it that way, it just sort of happened on its own, though it certainly is useful.

In any case, some brief awakenings during the night are normal incidents that virtually everyone has. Most people simply don't usually notice or remember them, though. It's possible that dream recall efforts make these awakenings more noticeable.

That is actually completely normal. When you sleep you go through cycles and you only dream during the REM parts of the cycle. If you don't wake up after a REM cycle it is basically impossible to remember a dream. Everyone has like 6 or 7 dreams a night and if you only wake up once in the morning at the very end, you will only remember what happens in that last cycle. However, the REM period of the cycles are longer, the longer you have slept. So the further into your sleep the longer the dreams are, so it isn't that bad if you only wake up in the later cycles.

So basically you are waking up and remembering your dreams, when before you woke up and just went right back to sleep, and then forgot you ever woke up or had a dream in the first place.
