      (lucid) nightmares

Just a bit of a discussion.

So I've never really had nightmares. To me, the events that happen in a nightmare are so crazy that I become lucid most of the time.

So I want to know if you've ever tried (lucidly or not) putting yourself in a scary situation in a dream for thrills, kind of like watching scary movies. And if it's worth trying, or if it's even possible to scare yourself while completely lucid.
      Dreams are my practice mode.

Yes, I have. Yes, it can be fun. Whether you can really scare yourself depends on how lucid you can remain for your entire dream, though -- I tend to default to "MWAHAHA ULTIMATE POWER."

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

You shouldnt scare yourself. If you do youll just wake up. If its scarier than you expected youll end up waking with a fast heart beat and your body will shake randomly for a few minutes. I have had a problem with this when I think about the people that make animal sacrifices next to where I live. Now I sort of have a fear of falling asleep and I notice the dream forming. You should have fun adventuring but dont make it something to become lucid from. Its not fun. Although im better than before. Seeing the dream form doesnt scare me like it use to and my fear of a demon appearing because of the animal sacrifices doesnt come to mind as much. I just have to think good thoughts.

Sorry, I ended up saying more than I should have but its not easy being afraid. Reminds me of how just the other day I had a dream of a dc squeezing my stomach and feeling a terrible pain. I knew it was a dream and did my best to think good thoughts but it was hard because the dc was too violent. Probably showing how helpless I felt with my sleeping problem.Anyways I woke myself up but having a real scary dream, even when you know its not real, is no walk in the park.

I'm not sure how well it'd work, to be honest. I think it might end up just being fun to you (kinda like a scary film, yeah). You'll know it isn't real, so I don't think you'll be too scared... or scared enough to consider it a nightmare. It might end up just being a dream with lots of adrenaline, which isn't a bad thing.

Of course, maybe it could work. You'll only know if you try it.

You'll know it isn't real, so I don't think you'll be too scared...*
Even when you know its not real things can get crazy. But you could end up being in a dream where it feels like the characters arent trying too so if you want go for it. I guess you have to experience it to understand.

However, now that I think about it. Having good control of your thoughts and determination has always helped me bypass those really crazy moments. But if you lose faith in yourself, even by a tiny bit it can end up changing where you end up. So do your best to keep a positive mind. This is what is helping me to conquer my fears after all.

I'm thinking of convincing myself that it's real to the same extent that I would when watching a movie/going through a haunted house. It still gives you an adrenaline rush, but you know that it's not real at the end. You know what I mean?
