What is the deal with sslds'

I have been trying for a short while now to get a WILD, with no success; I have a hard time getting over to sleep. However, when i tried SSILD, which i just came across by chance, for the first time last night, it blew my mind. I did not attain lucidity, but i did have the most vivid FA; it was unbelievable. I even passed a reality check; it was not until I woke up from already being awake that i knew lol!

My experience goes like this, I used the wbtb method and ggt up at approximately 4:45 hours after falling asleep. Went to the toilet and immediately returned to bed to try the technique; like i said i have trouble getting back to sleep. I did three cycles when i started to see and hear dream sequences (not hypnagogia), suddenly they stopped. I thought this would be the perfect time to try and go to sleep, but i found it difficult. So, knowing that ssild was known for false awakenings, i sat up and looked around my room; everything looked super real. I looked at my digital clock twice, same time, so i presumed i really was awake. Well I thought that until I woke up from being awake haha!

What i want to know is, is there a reason why this isn't put forward as advice for those having difficulty with wilds more often. Even if you don't use the technique the way it was intended, it is an uber relaxation technique! Relaxation seems to be the main trouble with WILD; at least it is with me.

      Well done on your success!
I also gave up with WILDs a while ago after 2 months trying and immediately had some interesting experiences with SSLD. Sort of given up last few days so much going on family wise, but I agree it's a great technique and certainly worth a try. You have given me inspiration to get back to it!

For what it's worth (not much these days, I know):

You actually were attempting a WILD, Sleepaholic.

SSILD is a technique used to achieve WILD's. WILD is not a technique, but the name given to describe the specific transition to an LD, namely wake-to-sleep-to-dream without losing waking-life self-awareness (as opposed to DILD, which is also not a technique, which simply describes the transition of wake-to-sleep-to-dream with a loss of waking-life self-awareness during the process, and then becoming lucid during the dream).

So you actually were attempting a WILD, using SSILD... and when you are successful with SSILD, you also successfully WILDed.

      ...just sayin'

I have had my first lucid dream that was not dependent on luck; using the ssild technique. It was similar to my first attempt, only this time I did not have any dream images. However, what gave it away was that I could swallow very smoothly. I did REALLY thorough reality check this time (cover nose and try to breath) and realized I was dreaming!

Now I just have to work on dream control. It was so realistic i had trouble getting rid of the rules that limit us in everyday life; i was pretty much stuck walking about my house lol.

I don't know, maybe ssild works better for people who have difficulty getting to sleep. A lot of the other methods on how to wild seem to be more geared to people who have trouble keeping their mind conscious while falling asleep; a problem I don't have. I just need my body and mind to relax! Do you think that sounds right?
