      Why did I fail?

Okay so last night I woke up at 2:30 and sat up in bed for about 20 minutes because why the heck not. Nearing the end of the 20 mins I remembered that I could attempt a LD through FILD since that seem to fit the circumstances. I turned out the light, laid still for about 5 minutes so my breathing, heart rate and temperature stabilised, and them attempted FILD. I wiggled my index and middle finger just very slightly as you are supposed to for about 45 seconds and did a RC. I thought to myself that it was possible I had done something wrong so I sat still for about 7 minutes and tried FILD again. Another fail, but both times I didn't feel any of those 'room spinning/lead blanket etc.' feelings. I tried WILD a couple times after about 15 minutes but I can't seem to overcome the rollover signals so it wasn't much of a surprise that I failed then also. I had had enough sleep before so I'm not really sure where I went wrong, any ideas? Thanks.

Just to let you know, I haven't ever had a lucid dream but even after this I couldn't remember any dreams at all which is very irregular as I have quite good dream recall. Thanks again.

It's always best to try the original method first. In this case, FILF is a type of a WILD, so I would try a classic WILD first WILD

This will explain everything. Good luck.

If you're very new to lucid dreaming I would try DILD as my main method, only because it's the easiest yet the hardest to achieve sometimes. Dream signs are very good to start getting familiar with.

I tried DILD for a few months but 2 problems occurred- I couldn't get into the habit of doing RCs but even when I did for a few weeks, I never even though of them in dreams

I agree with gab and chase. It is best to try a less difficult technique when you are beginning. The FILD might not have worked because you had been sitting awake for a long period of time. You need to be relaxed. Or you might not have woken from REM. Also, it's best to just go back to sleep if you try to WILD/FILD twice and they don't work. The longer you try the harder it gets because you are more awake and are frustrated. You probably didn't remember any of your dreams after your attempt because it had disrupted your regular sleep pattern, but I can't tell you for sure. About the RCs, keep trying. I tried them on and off for more than a few months and my lucidity never came from an RC. But then they started working and it was definitely worth it. Also, try to avoid using the word 'fail' (unless you know it doesn't affect you, for some people it doesn't). By saying you 'failed' your lucid attempt, you are making it more difficult to succeed later.

Hope something in this helped. Good luck!
