reality check FAIL

I always use hand reality check to attain lucidity. however, it failed last night! I was taking a test unprepared, and I found it dreamlike. I tried to put my finger through my palm, and it didn't work! WHY? I did another hand check, but it also didn't work. it worked before, but why?

when i had my 3 lucid dream i had same rc didnt work in first times but i knew i dreaming so i keep doing them until its finaly worked idk probably sometimes its just happens

In order for the hand reality check to work, you have to subconsciously expect the finger to go through the palm. Sometimes though, your subconscious expectation will be different from your conscious expectation, which leads to an unexpected result. For this reason, it's good to have a second reality handy in case the first one fails. Don't be afraid to switch up your reality checks if they're failing more than you're comfortable with.

Sometimes our RCs become automatic, and they lose the sense of wonder they have, the fact that we question the reality we are in at that time. It's not a bad idea to switch up your reality checks, but the core of your problem might be the fact that you are simply executing the habit or the reality check without, well, checking your reality. It's all about questions and expectations.
