Sleep paralysis or just a super realistic dream??

      Hey there,
I am an pretty experienced lucid dreamer but never got lucky with the wild method. I tried and tried but wasn't lucky. So last night I got in bed, and just focused on the colors in front of my eyes. But then I felt a really weird feeling come over me. If I was constantly having a seizure and the pressure on my back and head was unbearable (I sleep on my stomach). But once I woke up from it I tried again. It worked but it was more aggressive this time. It felt like someone was trying to break my back but it didn't feel like pain. More kind of a pressure or something. I woke up now and it felt like a dream but because I never experienced sleep paralysis before I don't know what it feels like and so on. So my question to you is Was this a sleep paralysis experience or just a vivi dream. Feel free to ask any questions!

^ This sounds like the vibration stage that is encountered when performing certain OBE exit methods. If that was the case, then I'd be near certain you were in sleep paralysis since in my experience I only encounter the vibrational stage when going through sleep paralysis - if I skip sleep paralysis, I also skip the vibrations.

I think the easiest way of answering your question is - could you move? If you could move, it wasn't sleep paralysis, if you couldn't, then that sounds exactly like sleep paralysis. The name is pretty self-descriptive. Some episodes of sleep paralysis also come with the feeling of someone on your chest, or seeing someone in the room, or hearing strange noises, or other hallucinogenic phenomena - others are just pure paralysis with nothing else going on. The key binding factor between all such experiences is of course the paralysis of your body.

What you described sounds like hypnagogic hallucinations or imagery and it's one of the things that happen sometimes when we fall asleep. When doing WILD you're more aware of such sensations, and if you focus on them they can sometimes intensify... It has little to do with sleep paralysis - only that SP is another thing that happens when falling asleep. As Royaltramp said SP is pretty self-descriptive - if you tried to move and couldn't it was hypnagogics + SP, otherwise just hypnagogics... Actual SP (while aware) is pretty rare and even if it does happen to you, in most cases just by trying to move it will cause being able to move soon after - so it's not such a scary thing as most people online make of it...
