Has anyone here ever explored smoking DMT (or other substances) in a lucid dream? Personally, I've found the mind very capable of creating a very convincing experience. Curious to know who else has tried this and what your thoughts are on what this tells us about the mind. I was planning on experimenting with it this winter. I did it once but it got away from me. It's a very intriguing idea. In the dream where I tried it I was lucid at a big pool party. I remembered that I was supposed to try DMT in a dream. It didn't work properly, felt more like weed... but I am convinced that I could do a lot better in a different setting. During that dream I was less lucid than I should be when attempting it. And there were tons of people and a lot of stuff going on at once. I will try to get back to it soon. It might take a little while as I am not frequently lucid lately... zombie lifestyle.... But I just got back home and will be turning things back on track in the coming weeks. I'll report back if anything interesting happens.

I have also found that in a lucid dream my brain can simulate almost any experience as far as chemical cascades such as this substance would cause. Mainly opioid type effects are easy as the body has chemical changes during sleep that are narcotic in effect, so simply experiencing the sensation of the sleeping body can create a very pleasant experience. As far as creating psychedelic effects I have experienced crazy levels of that kind of effect in lucids. In fact when I first started LDing I was sometimes unsure if I was honestly lucid or had ingested way too much and lost track in real life, creating concern that I may act out and get arrested. The potential is there to create/recreate drug effects and this would be useful to those wishing the experience with out taking potentially dangerous drugs. I do caution that anyone responding to this keep focused on effects that can be created in our minds through lucid dreaming. We here at DV certainly do not promote the use of illegal drugs in any way and as many of our members are under aged, lets not discuss any perceived benefits or positive aspects of actually ingesting drugs.

There was a thread about this a while ago in Beyond Dreaming, i actually thought this was that thread being bumped. It had some interesting discussion take place. Check it out here. I'll quote myself from that thread to reply to your question about using DMT in a dream, although in the quote I'm talking more about taking hallucinogens in general during dreams: As far as experiencing drugs or drug effects in dreams goes, I have personal experience with that myself. Truthfully though, rarely has a time that I've ever used a drug in a dream ever produced the effect specific to that drug rather than another altogether, or at least only effects that are vaguely reminiscent of them. A lot of the time I experience drug effects I don't even take anything in the dream and I actually get a rather bizarre amalgamation of the effects of various hallucinogens I've taken in the past (mixing the effects of all 3 classes to various degrees--serotonergic psychedelics, dissociative anesthetics, and deliriants).

I'm curious about something, so I'd like to ask a question of anybody who is capable of taking a hallucinogen in dreams and having an experience that is mostly faithful to the substance you took. As I stated in my quote, any of the times I've ever taking a hallucinogenic drug in a dream, be it lucid or not, I wind up experiencing effects that are more or less a random combination of all the various hallucinogens I've taken in the past (along with at times, as I also said, experiencing a similar amalgamation of hallucinogenic effects at times as a result of random happenstance in the dream without having taken or used anything at all to precipitate the effects). However, this doesn't really surprise me much at all given how typically bizarre, nonsensical, atmospheric, fantastical, and otherwise strange my non-lucid dreams happen to be normally. In contrast to the nature of my dreams, my friend says that 95% of the time he has mundane dreams where he does normal things he always would on a day to day basis and in locations that actually exist (the exception being if he's sick or something). I'm wondering if everybody who gets faithful drug effects typically has these rather mundane non-lucid dreams or not. If there's a correlation, then it presents some rather interesting questions. See, I'm also diagnosed with ADHD, may have bipolar (doubt it) because a few close relatives with bipolar, and otherwise fit the bill for literally just about every symptom and diagnostic criteria for schizotypal disorder (not really related to schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder per se, it just essentially means I'm not really capable of feeling my emotions and have an utter lack in pursuing personal relationships along with some pretty heavy depersonalization and derealization). My thought process is typically all over the place and lacks any real coherent linearity. Perhaps it's related to one's waking thought processes and how organized they are, at least to some degree? I mean, I've always kind of thought this about why my dreams are always so random and fantastical. It would logically make sense that my disorganized and scatter-brained thought stream results in what we will call... more creatively associative dreams (that is to say, otherwise unrelated or loosely related concepts are associated with one another, which results in more creatively symbolic dream content). This would logically extend to the random blending and combining of all the hallucinogenic effects of the substances I've tried when the effects are recreated in my dreams... right? Or at least I think so.

Interesting idea snoop. I am undiagnosed(for now) but almost certainly have ADD and like you, my dreams are very rarely mundane. They've always been crazy. I wonder if that's a common thing...
