      Tips For Insomnia And Better Dreaming

      I have researched and couldnt find a thread concerning different methods for those of us who have trouble falling asleep or staying alseep so if you know of another thread just point me in the right direction.

      I have initial insomnia and looking for ways other than prescription meds (ex:ambien) and even OTC meds(ex:TylenolPM). Im just curious of different ways either herbal, vitamins, drinking tea or something else that you use to help you acheive sleep and/or more vivid dreams. Ive read some threads on B6 and nutmeg etc. and would like to know of others opinions or methods. Some of the herbal teas I have tried in the recent past have helped to a certain extent but not enough to where i notice a huge difference.
      Any thoughts or advice would be be greatly appreciated.

      Melatonin helps me get to sleep.. About 3mg...
      Kava Kava usually helps be to have some short but intense dreams..

      thanks so much!.....
      can you get these at a pharmacy? (sorry i dont much about either one)
      how long before bed do you take them? any side effects?

      Melatonin you can get at any walmart or pharmacy... Kava kava can be a little harder to find but you can check any gnc or vitamin store... I usually take either one about 45 min before bed

      I have tried the melatonin. My personal experience is that it did not really do anything to help me fall asleep. What it did do though is kind of help my body reset it's sleeping paterns to what I wanted it. I did this over the summer when i had a job that I had to start at 2:00 am. I had to go to bed at about 7 at night and I was having a very difficult time adjusting. The melatonin told my body that when I took it and fell asleep, that was the normal time my body should be sleeping. I took the Melatonin for about 5 days every day before I went to bed at that time. After, I just tried to sleep at that time without it. Then, when about 7:30 rolled along, I got tired, as that is when my body knew I should go to sleep. I also did the same routine when the summer work was done to get back to normal sleeping cycles.
