Today I had an amazing LD. It was so vivid and so clear. I wanted to fly, but from past experiences, I was a scared. I have a fear of heights, and since in a LD everything feels so real I was too scared to start. I floated a little bit... but didn't fly.

A huge dragon flew next to me, and said "Afraid of flying huh? Hop on my back and I'll help you out." I said "No... thanks that's okay I don't want to..." and he said "alright" and flew away. Now I wish I had... >.<

Have any of you been afraid the first time you flew? How can I get over this? I want to fly but it's pretty scary.

Ahaha! thats so awesome! I wasn't afraid, but it was a very odd and exciting experience! You don't have to fly high, so why not just try hovering above the ground and floating about for a bit first?

I've never had a fear of flying. i always seem to do it fairly easy.

the second lucid i can ever remember was when i was flying in a dream and i said "Huh! i'm flying, this must be a dream". as soon as i thought this a force began pushing me gently to the ground and i lost lucidity.

but since i've been practicing lucidity regularly i seem to have no problems with it.

you can have a cable that stretches down from the sky and that you can hook on to your belt. If you ever start to lose control the cable will catch you =P

I too was afraid the first time I flew. I am not particularly afraid of heights, but I went very high and then I looked down. It was the thought that I have nothing suspending me in the air except my mind. Since I was new at it, I was afraid I might lose control and fall. Rational thought tells us it is not real but it can still seem quite real. It still may affect how you respond but if you practice enough you can conquer it.

I suggest taking baby-steps. At first, just kind of hover, you do not even have to move around. Remind yourself that it is a dream and that nothing can hurt you. When you feel ready, increase the height and start moving around. Make that a gradual process until you reach the desired altitude. Consistently remind yourself that it is only a dream.

Another thing you could do is go to a relatively high location, like a bridge or a tower. Again, I suggest starting off small and building up; unless you think you can handle it. Like the other suggestion, you should remind yourself that it is only a dream.

Honestly, I believe lucid dreams can help someone overcome fears. There are techniques to help people overcome such fears by using virtual reality (though, it is fairly poor graphically). It has even taught someone that is deathly afraid of spiders to even hold them in her hand. That is quite amazing and I believe lucid dreams would be even more successful if the user wanted them to be.

Heh same here ranma. My first lucid I was flying around like in a dome, and then I broke out of the dome and was like wait a minute, I'm dreaming! ( I think it's funny that the action of leaving the dome, not flying, is what made me go lucid but whatever works right?) I was flying down the streets of boston weaving between skyscrapers and stuff, totally out of control haha. I tried to turn a corner but smashed into a building and woke up =X It was far too exciting for a first lucid heh I had no idea what to do and it caught me off guard.

You shouldn't be afraid, just keep in mind that you are dreaming while you're flying.

Maybe jump on the dragon's back next time.(Theres a sentence I didn't think I would say.)
