Anywase on to your question. I am able to do that in the mornings when i wake up from a lucid dream; if i feel the dream fading, as soon as i wake up i don't move or open my eyes and am able to slip right back to wherever i was and continue the dream. You're right though, the key is to not give it too much effort, kind of have to just feel your way back in and not force it.
