      Confused big time

I fell asleep last night, and the next morning I was lying in my bed with my eyes closed, "watching a dream". I could see what was happening but I could feel my body lying in bed with my eyes closed and since I could feel this I knew what I was seeing was a dream. I also knew the time without awakening and I was right about it being the morning. What is this half dream half awake state? was I lucid? The dream was watching other people and did not involve me. Please Help!

That's an interesting state to be in, I bet it's similar to the onset of a WILD. Did you get that "Whoa I'm conscious" surprised feeling? In any case you may have been vaguely lucid but not conscious enough to do something about it.

I've had that experience before, it was one of my first lucids. I think that you really are in a lucid but since you are aware you are dreaming your mind is telling you that you are asleep, therefore the scenario of feeling yourself sleeping. My 2 cents.

I've also had this same exact experience recently, only watching the dream and being able to feel my body. I've never done a WILD before but from how people describe it this sounds very similar. I would guess it works like a WILD too, if you keep focusing on it it'll become a full blown dream.

Yeh, thanks for the help guys I guess I was really close to a real lucid dream. Oh well, I haven't been able to remember any dreams for like three nights, I've been keeping a journal, do you know if it is more beneficial to write in the journal write after you sleep? Do you guys have any tips on improving dream recall?

I've had a couple of similar experiences. However, instead of watching the LD, I could feel both my sleeping body, which wasn't moving, and my dream body, which was walking on a concrete floor of my old middle school. If you had relaxed and focused on the dream, you could have possibly re-entered it lucid.

As for a dream journal, it is very helpful to write down a dream right after you wake up, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to go into every detail at that time. Write down a summary and fill in the details later. As for tips on improving recall, just keep recording your dreams. Be persistent and your memory for dreams WILL increase.
