      Why do you lucid dream?

Might of been posted before, but:

Lets hear it, why did you decide to take up lucid dreaming?

Please only intelligent replies, not just '2 liek have lucid sexzorz'.

I chose to because I down right hate sleeping. I think its a waste of time, so I thought lucid dreaming would be a cool way to fill the time. I eventually want to create an alternate life in my LD's, like I can sort of go back to my life every night and continue it from where I left of the previous night (instead of just random LD's).

EDIT: I understand that some people have had LD's all their lives without doing anything. This is aimed at the others who haven't been gifted as such, but you can post here too.

I've never had an LD that's been all that great, but I want to just to see what my mind can create, and I can imagine getting some really interesting things out of it, especcially with DCs.

Pretty much, because of "Farscape", the guy from the film had a man in his head, which was telling him what to do, and helping, some times fucking around, but it looked fun, so I decided next time I realise I am sleeping (I didnt know the term lucid back then) I would try to talk with someone in a way like this - I supose I was searching for a Dream Guide(i didnt know that word either..). I still didnt met my LD purpose

... I find it fun being aware in a dream. It just makes me happy to realse that I'm dreaming. And controlling the dream can be fun, if you do it right.

I found lucidity first by summoning something in a dream and then realizing that was impossible. Now, I lucid dream because it's a form of entertainment and stress relief (never enough of that). I also like to bug my DG for answers to various questions, from course work, personal, or just random questions about my dream environment. LDs are just so relaxing and there's this wonderful sense of freedom I don't feel IRL.

I've had lucid dreams pretty much all my life, but I assume I started having them at a young age because it was the way my mind dealt with nightmares. I now love having them not only for the entertainment, but to explore and learn about my subconscious mind. And it's just too cool to build your own world.

I always had very unclear, hazy dreams and I thought the idea of working on lucid dreams could help me explore and solidify them. I've only had 2 DILDS, but just the process of journaling has helped immensely in giving me more vivid dreams (or at least helping me remember them more vividly).

I'm not saying I wouldn't love to control the dreams too, but the idea of actually exploring and interacting with a dream environment is very appealing to me.

i haven't had a LD yet, but I think the idea of being able to completely control your enviorment is empowering. in real life, we can only control ourselves, but in our dreams, everything is up to us.

I've had LDs off and on my whole life. It wasn't until I learned that there was a term for it and what it meant I could do that I became fascinated with them and learned to control them. I use them for personal development and have tried to travel to the Akashic Records but haven't been able to make it there yet.
      Am I dreaming?

When finally do have lucid dreams, I will lucid dream to create a fantasy world I've been developing while awake. It'd be interesting to walk in my world, mix amongst its people, experiment with the magic system, etc. I'd use it to develop my world further. I'd like to try my hand at creating mystical beasts and plants. I'd also use it to enact scenes and such, or to talk to characters in stories I am writing. Also... '2 liek have lucid sexzorz'

I don't even remember how I found out about LD. But apparently it piqued my interest because I joined the site. I'm back because I did a project on it in school and figured I may as well try again now that I've got a bit more stable grasp on life.

      Simply to have fun.

Some of my primary goals (right now anyway) is flying, summoning and teleportation (already figured this one out). My next goals will be gender swapping and do some - erh - exploration.

I've always been interested in dreaming, and even before I know the term lucid dreaming, I made up a list of things to do the next time I knew I was dreaming. Eventually I found out about it online, but I wasn't really that into it. Then a few years later (last summer) I remembered it and found Dream Views.

i absolutely love your reasoning behind it, 0bs3n3! and to an extent, i agree with you. the average person spends something like 20 years of their life sleeping, so why not make something useful with all that wasted time?! however, there's some days i just want to relax and forget about the world around me, even my dream world. my main reason for lucid dreaming is creating new situations for myself and trying new (and often times physically impossible) things. it's also nice to be able to do things knowing there will be no real repercussions to face once you wake up. in the real world, i often find myself being fearful of trying new things because i know there can be negative consequences or i might not succeed. in the dream world however, i can do whatever i want to myself and my surroundings, knowing that when i wake up everything will be back to normal (whether i want it to be, or not...)

For one I love sleeping. Just going to bed at night to get away from my problems and relax.

I heard about LD and thought you can just make yourself dream something (like okay I wanna dream about this tonight, and you randomly do) saw a vid on youtube, googled it and now I wanna do what ever I want
You spend 1/3 of your life asleep, so why waste it?

Well... the main reason I got into LD's is because throughout my life I've yearned to do things impossible within the "real" world. Everyone does to an extent. Thats why people enjoy movies, video games, and mmorpg's. To experience something completely differen't than our own world. Now, imagine your favourite movie, video game, mmorpg, book, whatever floats your boat. You can now dream that your within that world, and experience the delights firsthand. Things impossible in real life, such as flying, traveling to far off galaxies (next on my LD task list hopefully ), or simply creating a sword/gun/weapon then killing people are nore possible within your own boundless dream world. LDing isvsldo a great stress reliever, and way to do things not normally possible. And as 0bs3n3 and wedontexist said, you could potentially gain many years of memories not normally possible... It's just awesome.... Not only this, but in LD's, once you become experienced you can experience.....the most amazing feelings ever.... a very high level of Lucidity can result in heightened senses and the most ecstaticly vivid memories ever..... This is what the true Lucid Dreamers strive for. Honestly, if your in it for the sex, don't waste your time (of course, the sex isn't bad thing ).

Ive always had incredible dreams, vivid and tough to separate from the waking world. I used to hate the ones where I win loads of money or get what Ive always wanted. They were so real, and I wake up and "Oh, @%$ it. I was dreaming". Now when I know Im dreaming, I can enjoy it for what it is. My first lucid dream I had by accident before I even knew what they were and I flew like a bird. Ive always flown in dreams, but now I can do it just about every time. Adding awareness and control has made it 1000 times more fun. There is a very thin line between dreaming and waking. If you can learn to control your desires/consciousness/emotions in the dream world you have more success in the real. Or is it the other way around? The more I experiment with it, the less sure I am. I think life is a dream anyway. When you die, thats when you really wake up. I believe it was Yoda who said "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter". Then again, he stole Lukes lunch and beat R2 with a stick.

Just as important- anyone who has ever tripped acid or otherwise knows that the trip you have/feelings it leaves you with/thoughts it brings to your mind/etc- stay with you for quite a while. I havent done any of that in a LONG time (many years) but my point is my dreams are the same way. If I have a sad dream Im usually sad all day, or at least it throws me for an emotional loop. If you can have lucid dreams and/or control them it almost completely negates this.

      haha... just kidding.

Like previously stated, I take lucid dreaming as an amazing form of entertainment. It's more of a hobby to me, so it's nice to have something that you really have to dedicate yourself too. Plus it's fun to be able to remember your dreams, sometimes be aware, and live out your heart (and mind's) greatest desires.
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.

I never "took it up", as you said; I've always had them. I can say, though, that I *keep* having them because I want to know who I am on the truest level.
That, and it's always nice to be really good at something.

I've always been fascinated by states of consciousness and i think having lucid experiences brings a whole lot of joy to my life. I think what i'm really looking for though is insight, spiritual and philosophical. Oh, and predicting the future, having visions; would be pretty cool too.

Variety of reasons here! Nifty stuff...

I've always had very vivid dreams, many have stayed with me for years despite not having written them down. My motives originally were of the escapist variety, but I've changed over the years and I'm trying to break into the self exploration parts of LD.

It's hard for me to turn down an oppurtunity at flying, though, as I've gotten quite good at it, and it's ridiculously fun.
