Question If lucid dreaming = anything and everything then

why does almost nobody know about them? I have asked many people, and no one has ever heard of them, and some don't even believe it's possible. If you had to rate lucid dreams out of 10. On how amazing they are, what would you rate them? If between 5-10 then wouldn't most people like to experience this? So why hasnt it spread faster? If you rate between 1-5 why havnt you find them to be amazing?

The reason why many people don't hear about it is because the people you do tell either:

      a) Don't believe you
      b) Think it is "new-agish" and don't believe you
      c) Think it's evil
      d) Have them all the time and don't see anything special in them
      e) Finally believe you, but then get frustrated when they can't have one and then instantly don't believe you
      f) Just don't care, because they really don't understand the potential
      g) Believe you, find it fun, and spread it

As you can see, there is like only 1/7 chance the person will actually spread the information :p

      I would say 10

it requires too much discipline to catch on

I really feel its purely because of the lack of knowledge of its existence. Lucid dreaming isn't taught anywhere, don't really hear about it in the mainstream media. It only makes sense that people don't know about it. Theres really nothing out there to spread to actively spread knowlede of its existence. I find that most people that know about lucid dreaming pretty much stumbles upon it lol. I know i did lol...

Forums like this help alot tho in a word of mouth sort of way. And of course people would wanna experience lucid dreams...but they'd have to know about them first . I don't have enough lucid dream experience to rate them tho but hopefully i'll be having some soon so i can start lol. Btw this is my first post here. Great site..been lurking for a lil while now but decided to post first in this thread.

5 for one without control ---> 10 for a vivid one with great control.

      Seems to me people

      a) undervalue the realism of dreams (and therefore....dont bother trying to control them)

      b) dont understand the potential.

That does make sense. For me I'd say 10/10. Also, I know a few people that had/interested in having one.

For me, the people I mostly talk to just don't see it as worthwhile.

I was telling my family about lucid dreaming and my experiments thus far and they all were like "yeah, that sounds neat" and were ready to change the subject. When I told them it's like having your own personal holodeck (a la star trek, the next generation), where you can do and change anything with your mind, having complete control, THEN they were like "Wow, seriously?" Then I had to tell them that control such as that is a bit hard to reach, and they became disinterested again.

Basically the average person would probably be interested in lucid dreaming if it offered instant gratification to their wildest fantasies, but since it's a discipline that requires time to master, and even then you aren't guaranteed complete control, they tend to see it as "not worth it."

i would give it an 11/10. lucid dreaming is amazing. There is no way you can describe it to someone that hasnt experienced it. Most people just dont see the potential and think its a waste of time. That is till they end up having one. But lucid dreams are hard accomplish sometimes so people just dont think they are worth it. other then that people think that LDing is evil. thats what my family thinks anyway.

By "evil", I think maybe some religious groups might think so? Don't quote me on that, I'm not sure. Hpowever, there are people who think that all dreams help us come to terms with the world around us, help us solve problems, teach us things, and even view the future. Then they think that having control over dreams take away these aspects.

But most people just don't see the potential or don't have the understanding or discipline.

One simple fact.....if Ur open or interested in Lucid Dreaming then it is the thing for U. As U already know...dreams don't mean much in the real world as in people's perception on dreams so control or no control it's still dreaming....let's talk about more "real" stuff and the subject of Lucid Dreaming gets forgotten.

I told my family and my friends, and they all think I'm a freak now

I'd rate lucid dreams 6/10. I haven't fully experienced one, and I think they aren't as easy to enter as some people make them out to be. I'm sure once I actually LD for more than 5 minutes I'll give lucid dreaming a 10/10.

I know people that think that if you have lucid dreams then you're a freak and need to go to a psychiatrist or be exorcised.

And even if someone believes you, they may get frustrated because they can't do it at first.

Most people I tell about lucid dreaming tell me that they never dream, but I've only told about lucid dreaming to three friends, so...

Lucid dreaming is not popular because the society does not care about dreaming, some actually see it it as a bad thing ("stop daydreaming!").

Actually... DO we need to spread it faster? If so... then ask yourself... What did you do, to spread it further, in your own life. Was it much? Probably not... And now..Ask yourself why?

Hmm. This community has the potential. But if i would post a thread proposing people the chance to combine their energy and time, guess what answers would you get? I tried this several times, proposing many inovative approaches and got many persistive answers.

People just want to keep dreaming personal. Thats my deduction and observation. Prove me wrong. I would like to be proven wrong believe me.

      P.S: Pretty a good question.
