Thread: Are most advanced lucid dreamers left-handed or ambidextrous?

Hey guys,

I'm running an experiment on the forum right now, and the majority of people that have responded have been left-handed or ambidextrous. However, studies suggest that only 7 to 10 percent of the population is left-handed, so I'm wondering if there's a connection between lucid dreaming ability and handedness. If you've got a moment, post what hand you write with and how proficient of a lucid dreamer you are, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being extremely good at inducing lucid dreams and controlling them). Maybe we'll see a pattern...

im left handed. and on a scale of 1-10? eh I'll give myself a 6. I'm in a bit of a LD rut at the moment.

Right handed (6-10)

I dislike all forms of handwriting because I'm sloppy and slow. I'm right-handed, however. I'd give myself a 7.

I'm right-handed though somewhat ambi - a life-long musician. My dreaming proficiency varies wildly, ranging from probably a 5 to a 9 or thereabouts. Right now I'd put it around 6.

Right-handed, mathematics and logic rule me.

And about my dreaming proficiency? Well, I'll give myself a 7.

Left-handed hyper-analytical type rates himself a 1.

Im right-handed, but if I want to I can also use my lefthand, really, its true! I rate myself 0 D:

I have good coordination with my left hand when it comes to things like Juggling and Basket Ball, but as far as writing, I can only write Right Handed. If I try left handed, its almost unrecognizeable.

And like pj, I'm not sure I can give a single number to my dream proficiency. When I have time to really focus on LDing and have days where I can sleep in and do WBTBs, I'm pretty good...maybe an 8 or 9, with long LDs with good control. But when life gets busy, my LDs are less frequent and often shorter...so at that time I would rate myself more of a 3-4.

I'm a righty, and my proficiency is pretty much just as Twoshadows said. When I'm on top of my game, I can have lucids a few times a week, but sometimes I'll get in a slump where I only have them a few times a month (depending on my sleeping habits and stress levels). I usually have some good control, though.

As far as inducing them, I'll give myself a 7 or 8, when I'm really applying myself, and maybe a 3-4, when I'm not really all that focused on it.

Mostly write and draw left-handed, but mostly play guitar right-handed

Dream control: 9+ (easy to control all aspects of lucid dreams)
Awareness control: 5+ (sometimes challenging to acheive lucidity)

Excluding WILD, I'd rate myself 7-8 and I've had LDs since I was a kid. I'm right handed too.

Left-hander. I'd say I score 2,5 or something like that.

So far it seems that left-handedness isn't correlated with high lucid dreaming ability, but it is interesting what the poll shows. Left-handers make up 7 to 10 percent of the population, yet over 20 percent of the voters are strongly left-handed. Anybody have an explanation?

im left handed and would give myself a 2-10 only becuase im new to LDing, i dont see how this is going to work though, its all with experience. maybe being a leftly gives me a edge but my count is low because im new. you would probably need to find people who have been lucid dreaming for the same amount of time. an experienced LDer is going to have a higher "score" dispite being a rightly or leftly.

I'm left handed, and I've had lucid dreams naturally since I was 3. I currently have an average of 4 lucid dreams a night. I can control my dreams pretty easily. I guess I could say 10?

I noticed this in your results also. I am ambidexterous. I used to write with my left hand, then decided it was a pain in the ass, so I switched to my right.

I now use my right hand almost exclusively to write, but I can switch if I want. When I paint with fingerpaint or charcoal (anything without a tool), I use both hands almost equally.

I have around 2-3 lucids a week. I would rate myself an 8 at lucid dreaming. Satisfied, but still room to improve.

Don't they say though that we are all born ambidextrous but it depends on which hand we choose or are taught to use most often? If that were true it shouldn't in theory have any effect on lucid dreaming.

A while back, my friend who is a psych nurse tested me with all these brain hemisphere dominance tests. She had some strange things with eye focus and reflex tests and such. I'm sure you can find the tests online.

your right, if your mother wanted you right handed she would put your bottle in your right hand, if desired left handed she would put it in the left hand. you naturally are a rightly or leftly but when your a baby it can be changed very easily. it can screw you up though its best to be left alone, my uncle was orginally left handed but hes mother wanted him right handed so she did the above method, he wishes she didnt because he hunts and since hes left eyed he need to use that eye but since hes right handed now he has to use hes left hand which makes it harder. thats just a example there are other reasons its a bad idea.

Recall - used to be 10 when i was younger, i could recall every aspect of my dreams. Lately, however, it's a 0, I wake up and I say "What dream?"

LD - 0, haven't gotten one yet, only tested it once.
