I would rid my need for sleep in a heartbeat. Lucid dreaming is great, and it's even better because it gives back some of your life that is required to be asleep, but it is a poor make up for a third of a lifetime. |

OK, so I have been pondering over this scenario for a little while. |

Id definetly rather not need to sleep but im thinking just because u dont need it u could still do it so, id give up sleep if i could still do it but if ur saying making sleep impossible then id have to think about it. |
No i wouldn't take it. I don't like the idea of being perpetually awake even if i could function properly with it. It doesn't sound very appealing but i'd be willing to try it for a trial period. The closest a person can get to that i beleive is Polysthatic sleep. |

Some are born to sweet deleight
Some are born to endless night
This is like asking me if I'd like to do a hallucinogenic drug that's so addictive that I will spend a third of every day wasted on it with no chance to quit. I don't do heroin and I wouldn't do sleep either if I didn't have to. |
Simply the prospect of having fifty percent more time in my life - well, I'd have to take it. Yeah, lucid dreams are great, but not worth decades of my life. |
50%? How many hours do you sleep per night Wavefunction? |
About seven hours on the weekdays, but I make up for it on the weekends. Figure an average of eight hours of sleep, which means sixteen hours awake. An extra eight hours is fifty pecent. |
No, I love sleep. Even when I don't get lucid or recall a dream. I really love sleep. |
I'm surprised that so many people said they would stop sleeping if they could. While sleeping is a pain in the ass during the week, ultimately no, I would not give up sleep. Having a 5-10 hour break from all of the stress that comes with life is nice, it keeps one from going insane and lucid dreaming gives me the ability to see and feel things I most likely will never experience. |
Yeah I would never give up sleep. I REALLY need the downtime, and I bet every single one of you does too, no matter how much you'd like to think you can just stay awake every hour of the day for the rest of your life. Sleep also breaks up the days... I don't think I'd fair very well psychologically if the rest of my life was like one perpetual never ending day. Omg just thinking about it makes me want to jump out a window and kill myself. |
This topic doesn't talk about giving up sleep altogether, only the need for it. |

I would choose to sleep. That's like asking if I never had to eat, would I not eat. It's depriving you of something enjoyable IMO. |
I would take never having to eat as well... Screw taste. |
I would be happy with sleep optional. |
You could still find other ways to relax apart from sleeping. Option a: doesn't necessarily mean that you would have to be living hectically for all 24 hours. That would be nasty. An example, instead of going to sleep last night I watched 3 movies and read 2 short stories - I was stress free and chilled after that... granted, I am feeling pretty groggy now. |
no way! sometimes sleeping is the only way to escape sickness or the feeling of depression, etc. It just gives your mind a break from all the crap that happens. A lot of people think that sleeping is a waste of time, but I love sleeping, therefore it's not really a waste of time for me. Besides, even though some people say that lucid dreaming is a crappy makeup for the time you lose, I dont think it is, because when are you going to get the chance in real life to do a lot of the things you can do in lucid dreaming? For a lot of those things: never. |

either way, you're going to need to get out of reality ^_-. |

I'm guessing this means we still COULD sleep, we just don't NEED to? I'd give up sleep anyday. |

If you wanna f*ck with your mind, have fun tripping. |

I love sleep. |

Creativity is the only weapon left in the war against reality
I'd say I wouldn't give it up, because people would find out i didn't sleep and bug me to do work n stuff for them. |

I'm along the same lines as Firecrystal. As I often say, "If there were more hours to the day, there'd be more things to fill them with." |
