If you had the choice to not require any waking life or NREM to function properly would you take it?

Let's say you had a choice whether or not to either dream all the time (without NREM), or continue your current schedule of wake and sleep, which would you choose? Essentially, it's the exact opposite of its sister thread, but I'd like to see how the responses differ. If you want, you can pretend that everyone who knows you is happy for your choice (to avoid responses such as "but my spouse...!"), or chooses the same choice as you.

I don't want to sway the thread with my own opinion, so I won't provide my response until page 2.

      (Not sure what NREM is...non-REM?)

I think that choice gets made for us when we die! According to some sources the dream state and being dead are the same. But, for the sake of argument I will go along with your premise; I'm sure that dreaming enhances waking and waking enhances dreaming in ways that couldn't occur without one or the other. Therefore - I would turn down the offer of endless dreaming.

Correct. Non-Rapid Eye Movement. Sages 1-4 in sleep. REM is when you have dreams that you remember, named after the fact that your eyes move rapidly during that time.

Like Little lemo said. Sleep and the waking state complement eachother. Where do you think the "inspiration" for our dreams come from? waking life.

I would rather have an inspired dream then a countinuous un-inspired dream anyday.

Well maybe im giving waking life to much credit for our "nightly adventures" but you get the point.

Who? and where? If you have no brain for thoughts to take place in, i dont see this happening....anyway onto the question.

If waking life WAS EXACTLY the same as dream life....we wouldnt appreciate dreams right?

If waking life wasnt so...'normal'...Lucid Dreaming wouldnt give you that same 'rush' of freedom.

My opinion....you need waking life to appreciate dream life.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but in response to the above; as I understand it, the mind needs the brain to interact with corporeal or physical reality, but is not dependent on it (the brain) to exist. The ego-based personality is born and grows with the body, but being, itself, non-physical it exists in the medium of the mind and continues on once the body gives out and dies. And btw, we experience non-physically based reality every night in our dreams.

If anyone wants discuss, rant about, this statement just make a new thread in the appropiate forum and leave a link here.
