Is a nightmare only a nightmare if you make it out to be?

Ok I have to say "hello" first off...
Now um....ok I found this site and read through it and I have to say I this interesting knowing that there is a title to the control of dreams...
Now as to the topics I want to get to.... First off I am aghast by the statement that dreams are egocentric... From my experience the majority of my lucid dreams are that where I can jump from person to person and those persons are people I haven never met nor do the contain any traits that my friends or myself have... What I have come to find though is that I can control the being I am there in that "world"......
Meh. Ok, with that said I have a question (I think).... I see things in my dreams I believe would scare the hell out of most people... So I am wondering if that would make it a nightmare? Or if it is to be a nightmare does it have to frighten me? I am fond of having dreams that frighten me, similar to riding roller coaster,. the exhilaration is pleasing.... Also is there anything wrong with that?
When you look in the mirror, tell me what do you see?
Your self or some one you want to be?

there is nothing wrong with this

o and welcome to the site
so i am taking it that you have LDs every now and then. if the devel jumps out of a cup cake and makes you scream but then you get a good fealing (becouse he just jumped out of a cup cake) becouse it gives you a pleasing effect it is not a nightmare to you but to some one else it would wake them in a cold sweat. night mares differ for each person some times one night mare may not be a nightmare to someone but to others it would for you these could be adrenalin rushes. then again to others it is fear itself to them so
if i have not confused you i hope i have helped

in other words these dreams are just dreams to you but could be nightmares to others
you can't do that on the internet!.... wait yes you can do it again!

yeah. its all about your association with stuff... If you see something and subconciously think bad stuff then that stuff will probably happen in your dream... its like NOT thinking of your grandmother naked after you read this sentance, i'm sure you cant help it. I hate myself now, by the way.

Nightmares are dreams where you feel scared. What happens in your dream doesn't matter at all its all about emotions and how you feel. Events do normally make it scary or fun but it doesn't have to. People often see normally scary things in a dream and they wont even think twice about it. Then other times they will be terrified for almost no reason.

nightmares... i had them when i was a kid. i don't think i have anything i could define as a "nightmare" anymore... but then my definition of a nightmare, personally, is something thst just plain scares the shit out of me, and... i don't think that happens anymore. like, ever... i get a little freaked out, spooked sometimes, but never just completely and unreasonably wracked by fear; everything's counted on a fair amount of logic and calculation, and possibilities of good mixed in until even in my darkest, most depressed moments, i have a little voice in the back of my mind saying about how this or that could turn out differently, and... even when life sucks, nothing ever seems to reach an unbearable level of desperation, like it did when all emotions overruled everything when i was a child. it makes me wonder if it's even possible for me to have a true nightmare anymore.
      Life is a lust,
      Love's a kind of dust,
      Hope's an age-old feud,
And both Angels and Demons are allowed to brood.

I was also wondering about this, because I usually dream about things that are really scary too me like ghosts and evil spirit type things. But In the dream I never actually feel scared.

What I mean is, I'm afraid in the dreams but I'm not terrified.

      Does that make any sense?

      I don't have nightmares... ever...

I remember one from childhood, but that's about it.

Personally, I kind of wish I'd have a nightmare once in a while, because once you wake up realize it was just a dream, it's neat to realize you got all worked up over something "bad" happening and that's it's not true.. and you wake up to a better world, reality.

Actually, I've had dreams in which I'm glad I awaken to reality.

I think what defines a nightmare is a dream in which you'd rather not be involved in, that typically scares, frightens, or worries you, usually associated with dark themes...

One unusual experience I've had with nightmares is that I became scared when I realised how real it was becoming (I was lucid by then), and then this guy ran up to me and attacked me... blah blah blah. The point is that nightmares probably generally start when you are afraid, or have the physical attributes of fear. Like when you eat something spicey before you go to bed, it increases your heart, and maybe pumps adrenaline through your body...? -Causing you to have a nightmare.
