LDing is the least of my concerns. I am still in the closet to most people I know as a Pagan witch, an asexual, an intersexual, a neutrois and an otherkin. Lucid Dreaming is just one extra thing on a long list of things that would probably make people think I'm crazy. And even one of the more believable things on the list, too.

I've yet to be called crazy, but not many people I talk to about the subject can grasp the concepts I try to explain. Especially the fact that a dream can reach the same vividness experienced in real life. Perhaps I'm bad at explaining, or perhaps they're unwilling to accept it.

Of those, the only ones I don't understand your usage of is intersexual and neutrois. But yeah, I'm there. Lucid dreaming tends to fold into a general level of weirdness.

In the past my weirdness stuck out, these days the people around me are... well. I'm surprised when if they manage to get out of bed in the morning without a horrible disaster. I'm normal.

Intersex is my genetic and physical condition of being between male and female, and neutrois is the mental condition of being between male and female

Ever since I've read a book about LD, I've been trying to lucid dream, but I am not so good with it. Sometimes I think it may be the unfavourable common opinion concerning such things that prevents me from succeeding.

I'd recommend focusing on your own opinions, not the opinions of others. Don't let other people hold you back from what you believe in or think you may believe in and want to learn about. Lucid dreaming has been scientifically shown to be a legitimate and real phenomenon, so anyone with an unfavorable opinion should be ignored Don't let them hold you back from what is natural and normal and can be achieved by almost anyone willing to try it. I'm not sure I believe in OBEs (I think they are misinterpreted dreams, but I know very little about them)and whether I am right or wrong, by no means should my opinion prevent others from pursuing such experiences. I hope they do and develop scientific studies just to prove me wrong!

I'm very careful about bringing up LD's with other people. Mainly because it's very easy to draw a connection between the wonders of LD'ing and escapism. So when I do try to explain the concept to long time friends I try to remind them that I'm not wasting time while doing this because I do it during an 8 hour period where you normally don't do anything anyway(sleep). Might as well make the most of it right?

As for their reactions, they have ranged from very interested, to not interested at all, to skeptical, or even completely unbelieving. Usually the people that think it's all bollocks are people who don't remember dreams to begin with. I feel bad for them.

However, I snagged one friend into lucid dreaming, and he now keeps a dream journal and reports to me whenever he has an LD

      Victory!

Story of my life. I find it best to keep all discussion of dreams in my daily journal and/or dream journal, unless someone starts talking about dreams. Then they're in for an earf-full!

I think that OOBE has already been proven and explained as specific pattern of energy vibrations.

Yea, that's probably true. I'd like to read more research on it. I just think on these forums that most people have false awakenings and then claim to have OBEs or to have APed, which to me is like propagating inaccurate nonsense, although I am not sure what scientifically is required for something to be an OBE. If a FA in which you see your own body is considered an OBE then I suppose I do understand them (even though you are still very much within your own body), but then comes the question... how can one tell if they are having a FA or an OBE? All the more reason to learn to RC!

I am still 100% skeptical about AP... Anyway I can't even say if FAs and OBEs are two different things or not because I don't know the scientific criteria for an OBE, but I like to remain skeptical and suspicious until science proves me wrong . It prevents the furthering of false information, like whatever jerk started the myth that if you pinch yourself in a dream it won't hurt. What an ass. Think about how many people could have gotten lucid!

I'm yet to mention it to anyone but I've brought up topics somewhat related(dreams in general, DJs) and a friend of mine seems interested and open-minded enough so I may bring it up with him one of these days.

But, I'm not going to mention it to most of my friends since they're not the most open-minded bunch of people.
Ah well, if I don't meet anyone who LDs/pull anyone into LDing, I'll still have DVs.

I'm used to people thinking I'm crazy. When I tell people about LDing they think it's just another crazy scheme I have going or something.

I think the main reason that people think LDing is crazy is because there really isn't anyway to ultimately prove to them that it's real even though there's communities (such as DVs) and people (you) that have been LDing for some time.

And as for scientific proof even though LDing has been proven the information that it's based on isn't very wide spread and solid.
