      Bringing objects back from dreams

I have two questions about LDs that I'm really just curious if it occurs with anyone else. First of all, when I have lucid dreams, I often find myself deciding to fly... but I can actually "feel" that it takes effort. It takes a lot of focus and almost feels like it strains my mind. Does anyone else notice this tension in controlling your dreams??

Also, this applies to both LDs and regular dreams. I constantly find myself trying to bring something back from the dream world to real life. It's been a variety of things... from pictures to leaves to specific thoughts... for some reason I always seem to think I should be able to do this. It kind of feels like I'm trying to break through some mental barrier.

Anyone have any thoughts or maybe can relate??

In fourth grade, I drempt I could fly with the power of a white marble. I woke up with the marble in hand, and began floating above my bed. How disappointed I was when I truly awoke! I didn't despair for long, because I knew I had brought a treasure with me after all--memory. I wrote the dream down, expanding upon it for twenty pages.

It shouldn't take effort to fly. That is a mental barrier.

When I was learning to fly in dreams it took so much effort! As the years have passed I've gotten much better at it, and now flying is often effortless, but sometimes I still have to fight to fly.

Thinking you can bring something back from a dreams is classic! Even when I am lucid I still sometimes think I might be able to do this! Just another illogical dream belief.

I remember reading something somewhere ( i completely forget...) that people and scholars have ben trying to bring things back from the dream world for a long time. Anyway, I often find myself grabbing something like a coin or cup in my LDs (mostly when I was a kid) only to wake up having my hand squeeze really hard. It was as if i was holding the object and it just vanished... Oh well It is fun to think about.

I've always have trouble flying too. I think that it has to do with the fact that I get less and less lucid as the dream wears on. My very first lucid in which I stayed in the dream for more than a half second I was flying fine at the beginning only in small vertical circles and less and less as time went on. Looking back on it I was only in control for a short time in that dream. I agree with abra that it shouldn't be that hard for us. What we need to realize is that it is only a dream, and more importantly it's our dream in which we are in absolute control. That's easy to say but if you truly believe that it should help. It's a "there is no spoon" sort of deal. He he I hope that made sense to someone other than myself.

I get it. Matrix. Hey, is there a thread or is it listed somewhere in this forum all the movies about the dream world, dreaming, different realities, etc.? If not, that might be a good project.

Ha ha, I've always liked the no spoon metaphor or whatever it is. I just did a little search for some thread like that and I couldn't find one. It seems like there is a couple of good movies floating around out there. Matrix, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, I forget the title but the one with the french guy that LD's sorta. Good Idea.

Not trying to be a pain in the *ss here, but how exactly is the name of this thread related to your question?

To answer your question: yes, I sometimes have trouble flying too - it's as if gravity sometimes does exist whether we want to or not.

Good point I thought I'd bring you back a flash that has to do with bringing things back from dreams. It's by an author that does a lot of weird, experimental type games. It's http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/474519 I think you might like it.

Or an Evil toddler drowner... Hahaha. I thought it was sort of a cool experimental game.

What? Hahaha... did you play the game? There's like a bunch of endings and I tried drowning a little kid to unlock one.
