Why do you want to LD?

aside from pure fun and entertainment.

personally, i really enjoy writing and drawing (even though i suck at drawing) and i just want to use lucid dreams for more creative ideas.

also, if i get really serious into it, i wanna use it to help with my BDD. it's worth a shot. therapy costs too much anyway.

Relaxation, and a little introspection. Also, writing my lucid dreams keeps my mad writing skillz sharp.

      Fantastic Question,
It is one of the most important things to LDing.
Mine is the thrill of LDs and to test my own boundaries of my mind and self.

The same reason people do drugs and play video games to escape reality...

      And usually doesn't work anyway.

My answer: why the heck not?!! It's the coolest thing ever in the history of anything, ever. Even if my real life is as boring as jazz music, at least I can get up at 5 in the morning, sneak into my bastard neighbour's house (by walking through the window), then smash up their glassware and sew pimento olives onto the wife's cardigans (as I did a few nights ago). Now who'd say no to that?

And yeah, there's also the therapy bit. That's a new and exciting frontier (though I'm not quite advanced enough yet).

No other reason than curiosity and fun. Nothing more.

I think its because people enjoy the feeling of being in a dream. I think a friend of mine put it best, when I asked her why she smokes grass she said something to the effect of "the feeling of being in a dream, is a good feeling, and smoking cannabis can produce that effect, more or less.

First of all I want to do it for the challenge. I don't remember ever being aware that I'm dreaming, so having a lucid dream would mean that I have learned something I have been unable to for a long time.

It also frustrates me how I seemingly ignore the obvious signs that I'm dreaming (flying, just to name one).

Challenge aside, what better way to have fun? In a world where you choose what happens, and when. No limits but your own imagination (and the inevitable waking up). I want to explore places I can only visit in my imagination, and perhaps meet people who only exist in fantasy. And! I want to fly in a dream, and not fall to the ground in the end. I want to experience something other than reality and my chaotic, uncontrollable dreams.

Besides, why waste a whole night? You might as well do something fun while you lie there.

Well, I look at the alternative... I'd much rather basically be living another X amount of time each night and being able to do whatever I want than just sleeping, having bad recall, no control over what happens, and the other things that make lucid dreams so much greater than having regular or no dreams.
This entire reality is SELF REFLECTION. You reflect your essence and project it onto the universe.

      Why?

Dreaming is the other side of the mental coin. While awake, perception takes cues from from sensory input. In dreams, it is perception of the mind's inner workings. This throws a wrench in the concept of reality. What is out there and in your head must manifest in your perception. Lucid dream can explore the difference between these realms.

I believe that the mindset necessary for Lucid Dreaming will also cultivate waking perception. A synergy between these realms can give a deeper understanding of how we are bound to this existence. Rather than an escape from reality, LDing can explore it deeper.
