I think that someone could develop a nice adventure game that has the character (and by extension, the player) learning about different aspects of lucid dreaming as the levels play out.

Of course, it would have to be in the context of some sort of "adventure" or purpose for learning the techniques, with several other quests and stories added to give the game some variety.

I could see it being a good way to instill reality checking as a habit, as the player has different opportunities throughout each game level to reality check (by pressing a certain key or key combination on their keyboard...perhaps "RC"?); for example, if the player reality checks immediately after certains cues happen (say, the walls move slightly or irrational things start going on), then they go into a state of "lucidity" whereby they can break the laws of physics, etc.
The problem is, that would be BORING. And most developers want to make games that are actually fun to play.

Anyway, Psychonauts Psychonauts. Psychonauts, Psychonauts Psychonauts Psychonauts - Psychonauts.

No, everything can made boring or exciting... I mean, the game could be about a guy (or a girl) and there living a life in a 3D world. Have you played Grand Theft Auto? Well it would be similar in the way that you would be in some kinda virtual 3D world and you could actually do things as stilling cars but since its reality you could easily get caught by the police and get arrested (big consequences) and so in real life you'd better just go to work and get money and stuff (lol) but then randomly you could be dreaming and for the dream to become stable, you have to make a RC so then you can just ignore your job laugh at your spazzing boss and just go do whatever you want outside, fly and make the city a chaos XD and then you'd wake up in your bed, go back and live your real life (so you wouldn't have to go to bed or else it would be to easy to know if your dreaming or not).

Anyways, I'm not pro at making game plots and stuff so I'm sure a professional could make a Lucid Dream Game thusand times more exciting than this.

There already is a game like that, only it doesn't involve LDs, but being a super-mutant-hero-on-opium.

      Still, Psychonauts.

There was a computer game back in like 1995 that I used to play called... Dare To Dream, or some sort of thing like that, I'm not sure if it is necessarily LD based, but it is dream oriented.

I'm fairly sure that is the name anyway, I could be wrong.

It would be difficult to make a game that had 'you', a character in a dreamscape, that could do whatever 'you' wanted to. It would be like Grand Theft Auto in the aspect of having a fictitious city-scape environment, but you as the main character could do things like fly, set fires with your will, throw fireballs, jump 50 feet into the air, dodge bullets, etc. It would be a cool simulator, but I think people would get bored with it. It's like playing Doom 2 with all the cheat codes activated; It's only fun for so long

Well, what a lucid dream game would need, is challenges. Do quests. Key combo's. That kinda stuff

Yes... and like a dream, powers and abilities would come and go at random. Ya know? Sometimes in a dream I can run on a highway at speeds up to 75 MPH with ease. And if I really 'punch it' and all out sprint, I can exceed what would seem to be the speed of sound. Other times, even in the same dream I can find myself able to move only as slow as a snail!

      It's called Legendary or Immortal, something like that. I remember seeing it on E3, the PR guy said that you could even set a school bus on fire. :}

      Psychonauts.

For some reason, I really like this idea. The hard bit would be to simulate the freedom of a lucid dream

Games; Haven't played either, but Nights: journey of dreams is supposed to be fair, and Eternal Sonata is supposed to be excellent. Don't expect them to teach you about Lucid Dreaming, though.

This is why I want to learn Flash, well one of the reasons. It would be cool to be able to make a game like that haha.

Damn, that's nuts. Hahaha. That would be contraversial probably... But I've done some VERY not nice things in dreams.

I mean, not every movie is there... All you do is write the movies name and "part 1"... Then you have to make sure all the parts are there... I got tricked when watching the matrix... I only got tos ee the first three parts... which means, 30 minutes... nOw I want to see the end but...

      XD

What is it like?

[EDIT] I read the 'plot'. Looks interesting, is it a comic or a movie? 'cause it seemed to be a moive from what I found yet.

The butterfly effect is a great movie but doesn't have much to do with LDing. In the butterfly effect he has this ability to change his past. Which you later find out in the movie that the times that he had blackouts was just his future self trying to change the past. It is a really good movie and is worth checking out.
