I've found that 2 people I knew from totally unrelated forums were also lucid dreamers- but no one in RL. After telling a few ppl in RL about the fact I could "control my dreams" I decided to stop doing so- most people just think of it as either weird or eccentric, "interesting" at best. And I can understand that, since non-lucid dreams are usually something very distant and fleeting.

Yeah, most people I've tried talking to don't get it. They just either think it's strange or interesting. I actually got my brother to read the main pages (minus tutorials) on DV. Still no go. For the most part I just keep it to myself. I've only told people I know really well; most of the others would probably think I was crazy.

I found out about it because I remembered hearing about it once before and thought it was interesting, but couldn't remember what it was called. So I looked up "lunic dreaming" (xD) and google corrected me. If it weren't for google corrections, I'd still be oblivious.

Since when was Lucid Dreaming popular? I doubt it will ever be popular because as many mentioned here, it requires a lot of work and effort to even have a single LD. I haven't had one myself but I'm getting pretty close. Also, imagine telling someone that you can "control your dreams", what do you think their response would be? Either your weird or its interesting, but, they don't care about it. Most people want to live their RL and not bother with this kind of stuff BTW, first post

Well, I'll admit it myself, it does sound pretty crazy The only way to convince them is to prove it to them, either they have one or you have one and show them using the whole REM idea

Well I shared them my experience...where I woke up in a false awakening, but I learned I was LDing and Pac Man broke through my wall and started chasing me...then I ran outside and I was in the ocean...

I mean, it does sound pretty crazy.

At least, you've had your first LD Were you thinking about Pac Man at all when you had that?

My first LD was just me having a false awakening, I went to the bathroom and when the light didnt turn on I was like "Holy **** I'm Lucid Dreaming" (I was estatic xD) and then I like, felt my head caving in and my eyes tore open and I woke up.

This was my second, and it happened a few weeks ago. I woke up, and was like, "LDing.." because of the digital clock RC. Anyways, sort of. I was thinking, despite how stupid it sounds...what it would be like to play Pac Man while on PCP.

I need to slap some sense into myself sometimes, but an entertaining dream nonetheless. Swimming away from pacman.

I was thinking about this the other day. I ice skate, and I was thinking about trying to get an axel in a LD, to get the feel for it and get over mental barriers, then maybe I'd be able to do one in real life. Then when people are like , I'll just casually mentioned that I decided to dream about it and poof! But I doubt I can pull off an axel any time soon.

      Haha, swimming away from pacman.

Every time I wanted to talk about LDing, I asked "Have you ever had a dream in which you knew you're dreaming?" Most of the answers were yes, and less people looked me weird when I said what LD is.

I told my friends about lucid dreaming today and the conversation seemed to last for like 15 seconds until one of my friends started a new subject. I think I'm the only one in my school that knows anything about dreams and what they can do, so I guess lucid dreaming isn't so popular at least in my area.

      That's smart!

Ponyo: There are probably other people who are also thinking they're the only ones who know anything about dreaming. No one talks about it, so you wouldn't hear about other people--except maybe close friends--having lucid dreams.

I think some news network just decided to cover a story about it, and a few others followed. It is kind of hard to tell if it is ever going to become more mainstream, we might be a small group decades ahead of the average entertainment tastes of its time. Something about lucid dreaming might surface that becomes very populer, maybe a popular movie that is specificly about it. Though people may never accept it for the same reasons (that I have no ability to understand) why people put if off now. Though maybe it needs mainstream attention to become more accepted, instead of seeming like magick (yes thats spelled like in wiccan terms).

Perhaps it's because people are skeptical about lucid dreaming, they just don't bother arguing about it for whatever reason.

Everyone do your selfs a favour and ask your friends why they don't find lucid dreaming interesting.

I literally just learned about lucid dreaming yesterday. I don't think it's popular at all because people probably think it's "freaky". It does kind of scare me a little bit, but compels me even more.

If they don't, they don't. Just leave 'em to it I say; no point in trying to convince them otherwise - we'll just sound like my Mum when she tries to get me to go barn dancing with her.

I actually had two conversations about lucid dreaming today. That's like a record for me. One of the people at my school, who I know pretty well but I'm not particularly close to, had a few lucid dreams. Then the other one was with my mom and two brothers. We were (or rather, I was) wondering if it was possible to induce nightmares, and the conversation went to lucid dreaming with a bit of guidance. (Unrelated: I really like that smiley. )

Hidden it is possible to induce nightmares, there was a post on it a while ago. I remember one of the users said that if you want it that badly, get 5-6 hours of sleep, wake up, and look an an image that disturbs you for a LONG time. Afterwards go back to bed and you should have a nightmare. One user said to find a poster with a scary image and attach it to your ceiling to wake up to.

Maybe he wants to face his fear of something thus he induces the nightmare, overcomes it and doesn't have the same problem in life
