Are there any testimonials for Electronic Devices that induce an LD

I have seeen these things and I'm sure you have; a helmet or special blindfold that can induce Lucid Dreaming by electric impulse or some other method. I'm getting nowhere with natural LD'ing and I would like to know if anyone on DV would care to share a testimonial of one of these devices so I can assess whether or not to shell out the dough on it. Thanks.

I assume you're talking about the Novadreamer?

I've not tried it but I've heard that it isn't very good because you would probably get used to the flashing lights.

If you're talking about the Nova Dreamer, it doesn't send out 'electrical impulses', but really what it is is a mask with a motion detector (senses your eyes moving in REM sleep), and a light. The light flashes when it senses that you're in a REM dream, and this flash should be bright enough that it gets incorporated into your dreams. You will theoretically see some sort of flashing light, cuing you to do a reality check.

Because this light could be integrated into the dream in a plethora of ways, the device relies especially on your ability to reality check to "light" as a dreamsign.

There are a few people on the site who have used the Nova Dreamer, if you search you can find their thoughts on it. A few people also make their own versions, but I've yet to read a firsthand account of a home-made version of the device, or at least I don't recall having done so.

      Here's what I dug up:

      None of those devices work.

The problem is that your subconscious incorporates whatever signal those devices produce (flashing light, beeps) into your dream.

There is a good youtube vid I can't find at the moment where a guy details his experiences with all the available devices. With the ones with flashing lights, he would dream cars are flashing their high beams, or someone is playing with the light switch. With the sonic ones, he would dream of police sirens.

They're no more effective than learning to recognize any other dream sign.

Well, I think you're giving it a little less credit than it deserves. It's supposedly going to make sure that the same dreamsign you were practicing for is presented to you during every REM period that you use it. Which is like having your dream sign flashed at you 5-8 times per night, which is a much higher frequency than I normal see my dream signs! If you just make sure to reality check to things like that you should be able to get lucid from it. Especially if you practice some MILD.

On the other hand that reminds me of something I read about them, that sometimes the flashing would go on for too long and end up waking you up

I've never used any myself, I based that opinion on this guy's testimony.

LMFAO "Charles Manson with Tourette's Syndrome"!!

I'm curious, I really wonder how much reality checking he did to help him with those. I mean obviously that's the way the brain works with everything in dreams that it integrates things and explains them away, and yet we can still teach ourselves to become lucid.

Eh, I'd still love to try one out. If I had the $ I'd do it in a heartbeat.

REM-Dreamer is a cheaper option at 1/4 the price of the Nova Dreamer and in some cases superior. I Just ordered one myself, You could even pick up a second hand one off of eBay for practically nothing.

That video is consistent with everything I've heard about dream masks. The device only provides the dream sign. It is still up to you to develop the habit of recognizing that dream sign.

Everyone I've ever known who used one has just played with it for a few weeks, then given it up.

It really depends on the person, Its the same with normal lucid dreaming.

Those who try for 2 weeks and give up because its too hard never get lucid, And those who try for months and months and never give up will always win in the end.

thanks for the words guys, i've made a decision and will NOT buy one. I could spend money on a dreamsign or I could just keep writing in my DJ and get it there.

      Here's a testimonial for you:

They don't work. They are a waste of money cos they won't help you achieve lucidity. You already have the most expensive (priceless) piece of equipment, your brain, and that's all you need to lucid dream.

well i dont see why they wouldnt work, so long as you see the flashing in the dream. even if it does appear as something normal, seeing flashing light makes a great RC.

I wish DrTechnical still posted on this forum. Last I heard, he was having some great success with a CES induction device, but it is still top secret

For now, I think the best lucid aids remain the well known supplement combos, like those described in Thomas Yuschak's book.

I've just ordered one myself You'll have to let me know how you get on with it... Has it arrived yet? I know the guy can take his time lol.

I still think there is no better way than using our brain to lucid dream but a little extra help never hurt anyone Like I just said in another thread, I'm not one of those lucky people that lucid dreams at will, all the time. I have to work hard at it and those lucid dreams I do have I always savour for a very long time as I never know when the next one is coming

I've heard many mixed reviews regarding all three of these "dream machines" so I'm not holding my breath but I am hoping damn hard it will break this horrible dry spell I've been having as it's starting to take the biscuit now

I have had the REM-Dreamer for about 2 weeks now, And even with my very poor recall have had some interesting results, One of the most interesting was when i woke up sat on the side of my bed and felt my eyes stinging, And i looked up at my blinds and the light was streaming threw them so beautifully probably the most pretty light i have ever seen. After the novelty of the light wore off it got annoying so i just got up walked downstairs and did my normal morning thing. Then i woke up and the first thing that went threw my head was what the hell just happened..... Because this was my first real FA. I may have missed the Que this time, But i will getcha next time you crafty Que! Anyway, It works and it works well but you have to have good recall and a good eye for dream signs to get the most out of it!

The Ques come very random by the way they can be just about anything, Some of the Ques i have had have been....
      Normal light.
      Someone with a torch.
Midget throwing light at me. ~ (Funny enough diddent become lucid. ^_^)~
      The moon becomeing very bright.
      ~
Anyway this is just a little bit of my experience with it so far, And i am glad i got it, Anyone that says they don't work is wrong
      ~
If you need any help with it don't hesitate to ask, Was sitting with it for 5 hours before i could get mine perfect

Sounds great! The main thing is you're seeing the cues and working on your RC's. Carry on doing that and your brain will click that the cues are actually the REM-Dreamer lights and you'll become lucid

These machines are definitely no quick fix but if you're willing to work at it with the RC's, etc. then they can become an awesome tool. I'm really looking forward to getting mine and I'm already working on the RC every time I see different kinds of lights lol.

I'll definitely PM you when mine arrives, though that might be a little while yet as I only ordered mine the other day.

      Keep working at it

I will give you a tip to get your order speeded up, Email the guy and ask if it has been sent yet, He will reply with sent today. Thats because he prioritises the ones he gets emails for.

Also haveing a device like this is basically the same as perfecting WILD, or VILD or any other kind of technique it still takes effort, It is just more simple for people to use because the Que is always the same.
