      Introducing children to lucid dreaming

I noticed my 6 year old son was yawning the whole day so I asked him what made him so sleepy. He said he woke himself up from a nightmare and wasn't able to fall back asleep. He also said he often has nightmares but it's not a big problem for him since he realizes he's dreaming and just opens up his eyes.
I mentioned the possibility of dream control and he seemed very interested in that.

We're going to spend 3 weeks on a vacation together so there's going to be plenty of time to teach him some stuff. I don't want to force it upon him, just make him interested enough to start doing some exploration on his own.
One of my ideas is to discuss our dreams during breakfast. This would serve as a substitute for DJ.

Does anyone have any experience with teaching children how to LD or any good ideas about that?
I think it would be so cool to have something like that in common with him.

I think that's an excellent idea. Getting him interested would be great! I really wish I had learned earlier, I'll tell you that much. If he's able to wake himself up from a dream that easily, it seems like it shouldn't be TOO Much of a stretch to have him have a few LD's by the time he's 7 or 8! Of course there is a decent amount of discipline included in learning Lucid Dreaming, it won't hurt to introduce him.

that sounds great - i like the 'discuss our dreams during breakfast' part. i wish more kids could be brought up in a supportive environment like that, although i have no idea how i'd make it accessible to a child - i'm so methodical...

I think this is a fantastic idea, and has actually been a topic on my own mind. Myself, I had my first real lucid dream, or notion of lucid dreams at age 7. But it wasn't until YEARS later that I was more informed of the topic. I also know I'm not TOO close to being a father, but I know LDing is something I want to educate my child on, or at least, to present the ideas. I was just very intimidated in how to go about it, though.

Well it seems to me that you wouldn't be forcing it on him that much if not at all, since he seems to know that Lucid Dreaming can happen already even though he doesn't know what it's called.

You mentioned dream control and he seemed interested??? Congrats! Your son is now a Lucid Dreamer for LIFE!!

That's exactly what I'm talking about. If we were coached along at that point, maaaaan.

Something that helped me to be motivated while kid, was to hear the stories from my brother about what he had done in his dreams, so I say that would help.

This is totally a good idea, actually I was thinking of teaching my little sister when she gets a little bit older.

I have a strange feeling the only reason LD requires discipline is because it's completely foreign to our culture and way of life. If dreams were more important to us they would be easier to control and understand.

That's my problem as well, how to turn LD training into something playful?

Well, interested is an understatement. His eyes widened and lightened up. Something that cannot be faked.

Thanks and sorry for not investing more time in searching for similar threads.
