I'd check out the tutorials, first.

In my case, I'm still in the dream recall phase. For me, anyway, I find it beneficial to repeat the mantra, "I will remember my dreams" before bed each night in my head. It really helps me. Whenever I don't mantra, I have terrible recall of all my dreams. When I do, though, I remember at least two a night. Coincidence? I think not!

You may wish to apply the same principle to your WBTB methods. There are all kinds of variations and techniques, and you just have to find the one that works best for you.
