Anyone else think that LDing is gonna big...

at some point in the future?

I'm thinking maybe as popular as the internet or sports?

I can't believe it isn't already, to be honest. I've only had one LD but since starting to consciously attain LDs I've learned a lot about myself: my meditation has improved, I've learned how to have 'dialogue' with my subconscious, set goals, improve my prospective memory, have a more disciplined mind.

I believe it could possibly become big. There already making games about dreaming/lucid dreaming. If the right developer/directer makes the right game/movie then we might see a rise in LDers in the future.

Why not? More people have to know about it, and understand how fun they can be. Then, why not, they could be big? The info to everyday people just doesn't seem to be there yet.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

I personally hope not. I don't know about you guys, but I get jealous and exclusive when people start discovering things that are really special to me. It's why I hate it when we learn about, say, Ancient Civilizations in history class because for the longest time that has been my obsession.

Well like I said, if its the games that shoot LDing into popularity then we will most likely see an explosion of immature kids and "know-it-alls" roaming and trolling these forums just like on Xbox.com/Xbox Live. Call me selfish but I kinda agree with Ethereal too.

Same here, it can be very annoying at times.

At least lucid dreaming itself isn't multiplayer. But yeah, the contrast between those big gaming forums and this one is so huge, I don't want this site to become anything like that.

LOL. So true, so true, although I suppose those who believe in the shared dreaming would argue that point.

I kind of doubt that LDing will become huge on a mainstream level any time soon. For most people, it takes discipline and motivation and I don't think many people are able or willing to devote that level of energy to it. And while for me, it's the biggest, most interesting idea, other people don't seem to have very much interest in dreams in general. I don't understand how you can NOT be interested, but the few people I've tried to talk to in person about LDing or dreams just don't seem to get it or care.

Ha ha, that is so true. You have hit something there. I'm - slightly ashamed - to admit I do feel the same.

It's like when you know a small band, they're one of your favourites, and then they hit mainstream popularity. Something dies.

I made a post about this in another thread. I can't be arsed to remember everything I wrote right now but if I can find the post I'll quote it here.

There are a lot of people who don't agree with lucid dreaming.

The vast majority of the people who I have told either think it isn't that interesting or that it takes away something which is special in dreams (tells you who you are, basically)

But, maybe in the whole world, maybe the vast majority of people would be interested. There really needs to be like a big TV series about it or something. Or the DV podcasts need to become big. those things would make a start.

I have that with Arctic Monkeys

Anyway, I must say I kinda feel the same... It's like... our 'secret' community or something

We've had plenty of this exact same thread. Tiring.

Three years ago, people were complaining about it
      Two years ago
      Last year
every new person that joins is part of the 'infection', or the people that 'don't get it', as Pinsir said. Queen was started peaking in 1974, I'm sure someone was thinking the exact same thing you're thinking now.

But the fact is, Dreamviews, like any other site, would die very quickly if we didn't allow new members. Private sites don't work as well as some people might think.

It's not a bad thing. Like a band going mainstream/popular, we're getting a lot more fans. We have more members. More members means plenty of good things for Dreamviews, my favorite of which being expansion.

Anyone trying to say that DV should be kept small is ironic, and un-knowingly, hypocritical. Dreamviews had 500 people at one point.

Stick around for the long haul. It's worth it. Don't stop being a fan of a band when they go mainstream, stop being a fan when they stop making good music.

Yeah, I do the same thing. I am utterly obsessed with the band Queen, but I still get angry when a Queen song comes on the radio. I guess its because other don't appreciate it like I do. I guess it's a bad thing, but at least now I know I'm not the only one with this mindset. And I'm sure I'd feel the same way about Lucid Dreaming. If some big hollywood blockbuster came out about LDs, and it became the thing, it would probably piss me off...

      ...but I'd get over it.
