      Natural LDr's

Tonight I was talking with some friends of mine and brought up lucid dreaming. Partway into the conversation I find out that one of the girls there is a natural, and I get excited and start asking her a lot of questions. She didn't understand why I thought it was so great because she thought everyone could do it! Thats just flippin crazy! Any of you other naturals out there, did you just assume as well it was a completely common thing? I wish I was a natural but I had to become lucid by actually learning about it first.

Well, I never had that feeling, but my wife is a sort of strange 'semi' natural, where she can do HI-ILD quite easily. She also doesn't find it that 'wow'... didn't understand my side of it at first

I spontaneously started to LD when I was about 15. I thought it was pretty damn amazing, but maybe that's because I hadn't been doing it my entire life. I've always had excellent dream recall and very vivid dreams, but the LD's, once they started, weren't frequent-- maybe a few per year. In fact, after my first experience, I wondered if there was something wrong with me-- I kept thinking of that movie "Phenomenon" with John Travolta. When my vision didn't start to blur and I didn't suffer from terrible headaches, I fairly quickly dismissed the brain cancer explanation. I had no idea if other people "woke up" in their dreams, so I didn't tell anybody in case it turned out to be a symptom of some mental disorder. Anyway, I didn't have a name for what I was doing, so I couldn't do much research. A couple of years after it started, I was talking to some friends and mentioned, hypothetically, that it was possible while dreaming to realize that one is dreaming. One of my friends said, "Oh yeah, that's called lucid dreaming," and that was when I finally figured out that other people LD, too. I guess I was just the opposite of your friend. I thought that it was just me, or maybe just a few other people. I thought what I was doing was abnormal, not normal.

      hmm

I didnt really think about it much. I thought it was awesome and i did think it had to be a common thing.

I also told a bunch of people that "it was really cooooool" and all you have to do is bring your hand in front of your face conciously and you can controll everything! I was about 10 at the time it started.

I met another natural on Christmas. She's my cousin. I'm beginning to think that being a natural isn't all that uncommon, most people just don't realize what they are doing. LDing really needs to get some media attention to get out into the forefront!

I knew nothing of lucid dreams about a year ago, but after having a discussion with one of my best friends who has them all the time, I became very very interested. He would become lucid by looking at his hands as well. the first time I became lucid was the first time I attempted a WILD. WOW, after that first LD I was successful on my next like 5 or 6 attempts at WILD. You just have to train your brain what you want it to do. Everyone has the ability to LD, you just have to stop ignoring your subconcious and tell yourself that you can do this. Always remain positive and optimistic, if you dont think you can Lucid Dream, you wont.

I know what you mean. I was simply amazed my best friend was a natural. I also discovered another of my friends is a natural. I think that if people spoke more about lucid dreaming they would discover that people they know are naturals. I'm jealous of my friends but I know I am lucky to be able to lucid dream as much as I do.

I've always had to work at it, but in the last couple of months, I learned that I have a cousin that is a natural. Oh how I envy all of you naturals!

I was a natural when I was younger. I still remember some of the LD's I had even when I was as young as three.

Dunno what happened along the way, but somewhere I got off the submarine I guess.

Now, if I stick with it and do my dream journal and meditate, I can get it to where I'll be able to go 2 or three a week.
An idea is something you haven't fully considered.
A belief is merely a repetitive thought.
A conclusion is simply where you stopped thinking.

I didnt knwo that everyone didn't know they were dremaing in a dream my whoel life untill this summer when i joined this bord. I have known a few other naturals too. I dont think it relaly is uncommen. I think maby 1/4 of people are naturals. Its always interesting to talk to people when they nevr knew how to controll their dreams, or when its been a chalenge for them to have lucid dremas.

i've actually learned it's a more common thing than most people think. I'm a naural, and through questioning had learned i was the only one out of every person i knew who was a natural. It turns out from this website that more people can do it than i thought.
I certainly didn';t think it was common.

I was a natural but whenever I became lucid I would kill myself or try to open my eyes anything to get out of a dream I never thought about it once that I could use my ability to have fun.

I'm really intrigued that most naturals assumed that it was a natural thing among all people. Maybe their lack of hype really boosts their performance!

i think everyone ld's but most people just have bad dream recall. some people actually believe they don't dream and will argue about it. can you imagine??? as for ld's, i had them as a kid quite often (and still from time to time) and remember saying to friends, "you know when you're dreaming and you know that you're dreaming?" and i'd ususally get an "um, noooo" response or a blank stare. so i kind of had that "what's so wow about this" attitude when i first came accross Laberge's book. but i did think wow, here's at least one other person who knows what i'm talking about and hey, yeah, wouldn't it be great to fly and control these dreams (if i could i'd reinvent the lover of my dreams every nite!) only flown once though. a not-so-gracious flapping of the arms up and down. wish i could just grow a set of beautiful wings.

Hey abcde, I know you are looking for answers but it's better to start a new thread on the topic as you already have and wait for answers rather than necro old posts. People last posted here in 2005, so it's very unlikely they will reply. Thanks for understanding.
