What do you guys think of binaural beats?

So I downloaded this application for my ipod touch, its called IBrainWave, and basically you put the frequency you want, put your headphones in and you're good to go. My question is, would it be a good idea to sleep listening to these "binaural beats" or do you think they will interfere with your dreams and probably distract you will trying to attempt WILD?

I've slept listening to them a couple of times, but didn't really help that much, in fact, in the night I got my first lucid dream, I actually woke up in the middle of the night, took my headphones off, turned my ipod touch off, went back to sleep and then I became lucid.
      Spoiler for Goals:

You want a frequency of 4-7 hertz for optimal efficacy. However, I prefer Isochronic tones or beats. They're more powerful, effective, and easy to use...you can make them with audacity. However, I'm sure the iPhone app will work well, too. Good luck!

Hey Mario, can you give me a brief rundown on what exactly these beats do? I followed that tut on chat earlier and made a 15 minute mp3, but don't know how it works...

You just listen to them. The frequency determines what frequency your brainwaves will sync with. The lower the frequency, the more calm and relaxed your brain will become. They work through a phenomenon called brainwave entrainment - when your brain hears a certain beat over and over again, the brainwaves naturally line up with it. Well, different frequencies of brainwaves correspond to different levels of consciousness. Therefore, if you listen to a frequency commonly associated with lucid dreaming, usually around 5-6 hertz, your brainwaves will move toward that frequency, and should help you to have a lucid dream. Entrainment takes some time to work, and a 15-minute file is good.

Note: to change the frequencies, go to the generate tone box, the bottom option dealing with tone length. Your frequency is as follows: 1/(desired frequency x 2). So, a 5 hz frequency would correspond to 1/(5 x 2), or 1/10, or 0.1.

Both binaurals and isochronic tones can be set to music, but they sacrifice some efficacy in doing so.

Note: I claim no responsibility to unusual side-effects of listening to these beats. I have played them at home, around my family, and members of DV chat have played them, as well. While they have not caused any serious mental trauma, there are numerous reports of "hearing voices in your head" while listening to these beats. I myself have experienced this. While I do not think it is harmful, I would not have extremely prolonged exposure to these beats.

Binaural beats require headphones and tone differences to work properly, where as isochronics simulate frequency by repeating the same sound at evenly-spaced intervals. Consequently, isochronics do not require headphones, are more easily created, and tend to be more powerful. Both will achieve the desired result, but I prefer isochronics for these reasons.

Sorry for the epic length of this post...also, sorry if it is a bit disjointed...homework has me a little frazzled. Good luck to everyone!
