      dreams and dimensions

well. I have known about lucid dreaming for quite a while now through a good friend of mine and recently I have began studieing string theory and M-theory and wonder if anyone els has noticed that the dream realm is a lot like what traveling through higher dimensions might be like? I mean. you can travel through time. alter physics. and things are never change, witch would mean that you are always traveling through higher dimensions. I am just kinda curious on what other people think because I am thinking their might be some sort of conection between the two.... but then again they might be completely unrelated. but anyways. give me your thoughts on this topic. I am kind of curious on other peopls opinions. and if you don't know about higher dimensions just go through google and stuff. should take long to figure out.

I guess you could say that. It's more like being god though. I think string theory is bull, but that might just be me.

Yeah, I think not. Occam's razor, mate. Solution with the fewest variables is usually correct. Could be that we're traveling through higher dimensions while we sleep, or it could just be that neurons are firing within our brains, as usual. I'd have to say there's no relation.

eh. I guess. but I ain't so easy to just accept that lol. I have never been the person to just accept something or settle so easily. or even follow the flow. its pplz that think differently that discover the new . but yeah. I guess I will do my own investigating and whatever. I kinda think that maybe it might even be a realation as simpla as our mind is trying to travle through these higher dimensions and it can only recreate the reality. but. whatever I guess :\. still. I wana know what other ppl think

Yeah, it's extremely unlikely that the mind travels through other dimensions during sleep. Mankind has the strange tendency to make stuff up to explain things they don't understand. Hence religion.

      Hi Kira,

Why don't you practice lucid dreaming yourself? With all the theories you are learning now you'll have enough information to build yourself a great dream. I think the answers you then get will be more relevant then the answers of some dreamers on this forum.

And you are incorrect that lucid dreamers can easy fly to other dimensions etc. It take a lot of practice to do stuff like that.

Good luck, I can recommend LD for yourself
Longterm Goal: Be a master of my dreams
Midterm Goal: Stay motivated in LD-ing
Shortterm goal: Stay lucid for a long time

      Total LD: 35 (11-06-2010)

Be rested - meditate - wake up and write down

I've really got to disagree with James here...

I've got to say that dreaming is little more than your subconscious creating sensory experiences for you. It has been proven that mice and other small, simple mammals dream, usually about things they've "learned" during the day. Really, as a firm believer in Occam's Razor, it seems much more plausible that dreaming is a series of chemical reactions taking place within your brain, rather than a manifestation of pure consciousness wandering through multiple dimensions...

Also, the dreams and dream control capacities of individuals change widely with the activity of their imaginations. If we were all to wander through the same dimensions, we should all have similar dreams and dream control abilities. For example, if we were to wander through dimensions where gravity does not exist, it should be that everyone can fly, but some struggle with this. I dunno...just putting in my two cents.

And I would have to say, how can either of you know for sure?

We can't. Technically, we can't be sure of anything at all. But, that's another debate...

Although it is impossible to be certain, if you take Occam's Razor to the whole affair (the simplest solution is usually correct), it seems far more plausible that dreaming is little more than a series of chemical reactions within the brain. Besides, if our minds were free to wander through dimensions without being tethered to the body, why do so many people sleepwalk/act out their dreams/talk in their sleep, etc?
