      Question Real World "Dream Hallucinations"

I'm just wondering if anyone has every heard of this, and if they know what it is. Before I ever heard about lucid dreaming, I have several times woken up in the middle of the night, totally aware of myself, my surroundings, and that I am awake, and hallucinated several people standing in my room looking at me. I thought they were real people for a while, but finally realized they're not really there and they go away.

This has happened to me twice after I've smoked cannabis earlier in the day, and once with no help of any substance.

My brother also told me that he experienced it once.

sounds kinda like SP.. when you woke up, were you able to move your body at all?

What? What are you talking about? >_>

Anyway, it definitely sounds like SP or hypnogogic hallucinations. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. The more details you give us the better. Also, a dream guide will likely have a better idea.

He specified that he was aware that he was awake. Meaning he was awake. Not asleep.

Those are hypnopompic hallucinations, which occur in the transition stage between sleeping and waking. Hypnogogic hallucinations occur in the transition between waking and sleep. It's like there is a switch labled "Sleep" and "Awake". These types of hallucination occur when that switch it in between the sleep and awake position.

Now did you see real looking people, or did you see shadow people?

Yes I was, it wasn't sleep paralysis.

I don't believe it was either... I know for sure it wasn't SP because I remember trying to act as casual as possible (I thought the people there were real) so I put my hands behind my head. I think I remember moving around into other positions also, but anyway I'm positive it wasn't SP. And I don't know how it could be a hypnogogic hallucination because those occur when you're trying to have a WILD, but I also wasn't having SP which is part of a WILD. Plus I never got the vibrations in my ears.

I don't think there's any other detail about it that I can give you... that's all I know

Wow that sounds really interesting! That must have been what it was, because I had already been sleeping awhile before I had these. I never knew there was such a thing as a hypnopompic hallucination. I know about hypnogogic, and it couldn't have been that because I wasn't having SP. Are there anyway other ways to know if it was hypnopompic, like with hypnogogic it's accompanied by SP and the vibrations in your ears.

They were real looking, I think. I don't remember anything about shadows.

I've heard of waking up and still seeing/hearing some of your dream. But what you are describing is proably just an effect of the cannabis.

Perhaps it was a false awakening?

I Thought that I had this this morning, but it turns out that it was just a dream . It was very vivid, and very similar to my room, my bed was just closer to my window, and that was about it! There was a small black dog on my bed and I thought that I was just imagining it, a hallucination, because, I don't own a black dog. But my "parents" came in to say that we were babysitting him and I beleived them . I was so close to becoming lucid, I remember trying to get up to feel if I felt "different" like I do in lucids, but I didn't. I beleived it was real life.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

Hah funny! These damn DCs seems to be quite smart, we've gotta come up with a practical way to outsmart them!

I have woke up once and could of sworn my dog was in my room walking around. I actually got up and searched for it because it was dark, and about halfway through my search I was just like, "Wait, there is no dog in my room. What am I thinking?" Even though I could of sworn the dog was in my room. I guess my experience was somewhat like yours. Also many times I have woken up and heard music. I would think, "Why is someone playing music at 3 in the morning?" And the more I thought about the music, it started to fade away and I realized I was just hearing non-existant music.

Damn, sounds almost exactly like what I had! You've most accurately described my experience, more than anyone else who thought they knew what was going on. I woke up and saw the people standing there, and when I actually tried to interact with them they were gone and I was thinking "What the shit's going on?"

I also have woken up and I thought I heard my ipod playing really loudly in my closet a few times, but when I check it's either not on or not in my closet. I also thought I heard my cell phone ringing, quite clearly, but I always turn off my cell phone at night. Kinda creepy but kinda cool ha ha.

I'm guessing this is more common in some people than others, as no one else has really hit onto what I experienced aside from Conzo.
