Nap LDs and Normal sleeps LDs Theory

I was browsing through DV and then suddenly remember that almost of my LDs occur when I was taking a nap, which usually takes place in the afternoon. And so far I haven't read an explanation of this.

So I figure could this be the daylight that shines on your eyes, your body is tired but the light keeps you from going into deep sleep, enabling vivid LDs. This explains why I can't get LDs at night, even with WBTB.

If this is the case, we can use some source of light to enable LDs at night, but not too bright, so to match the level of daylight, this keeps our mind from going into a deep night sleep.

      What do you guys think?

It is also possible that your not entering as deep of a sleep, because your not as tired, or that you are more aware because your well rested in the afternoon.

Though generally yes, any thing that makes you uncomfortable keeps you from going into as deep of a sleep, which will help have a you lucid dream.

I have heard some people suggest things to make themself more uncomfortable when they sleep, using the same logic. Though I have to agree with you. Sleeping with a little light shining on you is probably better then sleeping on a board, or sleeping with clothes pins on your fingers.

I concur, its most likely becuase your sleeping lighter and thus more likely to retain some consciousness.

I wish I could try LD during a nap but I never have that kind of time in the middle of the day. Plus, I never wake up very well after naps unless they're under a half hour (messes with my sleep cycle).

If it's agreed that light can make us LD, then how come I haven't seen anybody try this yet? We can use pair of glasses and somehow hook the light into the glasses and dim it down, sorry I don't know squat about electronics.

I don't know it sure does sound much easier than trying to wild or dild or other frustrating techniques. If someone who knows about electronic stuffs make this and it works then we can all happy LD lol

Napping is actually understood to be one of the best ways to LD though probably not for the reasons you mention i.e. more light.

You can have REM in naps as well, a lot people don’t nap and for many of those that do, thanks to culture and our fast paced lifestyles we prefer the 'Power nap' which is too short for REM cycles to occur.

Here’s a great little article on the net about ‘designing’ the ideal nap:

Napping's pretty useful for lucid dreaming. I think it has to do moreso with your mind already being more awake during midday than morning, and REM being easier to achieve.

Wakefulness is related to exposure to light. . . But if you tried using light at night, I think your quality of sleep would drop.

I find lucid naps fairly easy to attain (for me, especially after a night of 7 hours), and usually I'm wearing a bandana over my eyes. Hm.

I don't think it actually has anything to do with light. You experience lucid dreams during naps because it is an extension of a REM cycle from the previous night. It is actually best to nap within 4 hours from the time you woke up in the morning or the chance for LD diminishes largely, and the best bet to get an LD is at 2 hours after waking. This is what I've read and also what has been true for me. If I wake up at 9am, taking a nap around 11am...will pretty much always result in a LD without any effort.
