      Intelligent Level of Dream Characters

Dream characters are one of many fascinating things in dreams. Dreams without any dream characters can be very boring. Some characters seem to be just like real humans, while others tend to be like machines.

How "intelligent" are your dream characters? If you ask them a question, do they give you a reasonable response, or do they just spit out some meaningless words? Do you think dreams would be better without any dream characters interfering in your dreams?

Most of my DCs are as intelligent as I, but a good few of them are very unintelligent. Sometimes I control their responses though, if I'm doing something specific in a dream. That helps with making them smarter, if I make the response for them.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

dream characters are fun to mess with, i had a dream once that i was able to convince my dream friends that this is just a dream... first my friend looked at me and said "hey guys, i think sean is being serious" and i said yeah im serious this is just a dream, i told them that im about to wake up, my friend told me to look at him in the eyes and keep talking to him so i wont wake up, i eventually woke up but went right back to sleep and was right back into the same dream, i told them i just woke up now im back.. really weird bcuz i havent had dream characters respond so attentively like that... but i assume its because i wanted them to believe me so my subconscious willed them into saying things..

I ask them questions... the answers never make a bit of sense.

I have found that they can vary anywhere from intelligent to nonsensical. Many times their comments and answers are surprising and unexpected.

Once while Lucid,I was floating down a hallway and was surprised by a voice from behind that said "you're pretty good at that".I turned and went to shake his hand but he fist bumped me instead. We introduced our selves but I forgot his name later. I asked him "where are you when I'm not here?" he said "I was wondering the same about you".
I told him that I was dreaming and that "this is like a simulation"..

He proceded to tell me that his RV had been in an accident and "boom,I ended up here"...

      One of my favorites.

My DCs have a fair level of intelligence, but sometimes they do behave a bit odd. One thing I can say is that my DCs are a lot friendlier, sexier, and happier than most real people.

hahahaha he fist pumped you thats funny, crazy dream though, said he was in an rv accident, you remember what he looked like, facial features maybe you can find a person within your area that has been in a fatal rv accident, that would be even crazier if it was an actual spirit of a person haha. Just sayin you never know.

It varies. Some speak like human characters, others possess the intelligence of a brick.

I do remember alot of his details, blond hair, prison tattoos on his knuckles for instance.I did try to look around the web for some type of RV accident but I found nothing.I am open to the idea of meeting the deceased in the LD space...

It was a crazy lucid though...man,sometimes DCs come out with totally unexpected stuff!

I have to wonder; If it's all in your head, how are such details, plots, people, dialogue, etc created and rendered to awareness? How could this happen from just electro-chemical reactions? Another topic I guess, but DCs get me thinking about these things for sure...

In my normal dreams my dream characters try to talk to me but I can't understand them. Well...it's like they're talking but they're also 'not' talking. I get the jist of what they're saying because they're in my mind but if someone on the street talked like that I wouldn't understand a word of it.

As for Lucid dream characters......I'm still working on that. I tried to create a person once, I spun around and told myself they'd be there when I was facing that areas.....they weren't there but there was a bunch of crumpled up orange towels on the floor......what do you suppose that means XD

My dream characters have always been smart and alot of them seem to have a pushy attitude to them. I remember my first lucid dream, I was around my friend and I told her this was a dream and you know what she did?. She got angry and started strangling me! so I told her 'I was joking, I know this isn't a dream' and she calmed down. Scary thing for my first lucid dream since it happened almost as soon as I went lucid!. lol.

The only dream characters I ever really get are people I know in real life. I think my mind assigns them habits that I think they have in real life. As such, most of my DC's are pretty dumb, just because I know lots of dumb people.

Just kidding, if you are someone who knows me in the waking world.

      But seriously.

Same here. DCs in my dreams who I don't know talk very little. What they say to me is most often predictable just before they say it. Although in one dream, I "woke up" laying in a school playground somewhere in ancient Asia. There were three young monks practicing martial arts. Maybe around the age of 7 or 8. They walked up to me and said "We thought you were dead". I told them that this was a lucid dream. They looked puzzled. I smiled and then said "You can fly!". Two of them laughed and flew away. One kid just stood there and stared at me. He seemed to be a more intelligent DC. He seemed to be curious and wanted to have a conversation.

My charries sometimes know that this is a dream. Sometimes they also act like normal people.
The ones that know is a dream say things like
"Don't wake up, I don't want to die."
"I don't want to change charrie please don't wake up."
The other ones I just have sex with them, and kiss them, and fight with them, and just mess with them.

I have become careful assessing the intelligence of dream characters. What may seem nonsense at first can be quite surprising on reexamination. What you perceive does not necessarily bear a close resemblance to its true self. You can only correctly recognize symbols that are known to you. An unknown symbol may seem meaningless, you wouldn't understand it or it is represented by something you know, but that may be very vague and far from its true self. What seems "stupid" or "machine-like" may merely exceed your understanding of it. Remember, in dreams you are not seeing with your eyes and not hearing with your ears. In the waking world you aren't either, but that's a different topic.

There are DCs - actually I prefer the term "entity" - with whom I can communicate like with any human being who shares my culture, there are DCs that I can at least exchange some information with, there are DCs that I understand later after expanding my knowledge and there are DCs that I don't understand at all for the time being. There are even DCs who know about reality checks and lucidity while other DCs get very confused about it.

This is not about intelligence though. Imagine a city dweller and a bushman that by some magical or technical appliance - doesn't matter what - can temporarily speak the same language. They wouldn't understand each other nevertheless, because they would use the same words in a completely different manner. What meaning does the word "scyscraper" have for someone who has never seen one (?) and - as the city dweller I am - I can not even imagine a good counterpart example. That does not mean either one is more or less intelligent.

If unclear, demand to see the true self of things, not their subjective representation. You may not understand what you see, but at least you know then why.

I find that most of my more prominent 'chance' encounters with 'high-level' dream characters are along this same vein. I once went to sleep with the intention of meeting another dreamer somewhere as soon as I fell into lucidity, and as soon as I drifted off, I found myself in an enormous, well-appointed courtyard. Seated at it's center was what appeared to be a young man, maybe fourteen years old, wearing dark eye makeup (like cleopatra-style) and gaudy beaded clothing. I ran over to him and sat down, and he opened his eyes, looked straight at me and said: "What are you doing here? How did you get in? Who told you where I was?" He waved his hand and I went flying end over end and woke up in a cold sweat. Had I just been forcefully ejected from my dream by a dream character, or was it actually another dreamer, banishing me from HIS dream?

My dream characters do weird stuff (but so do I) and are usually crafty and tricksy and conniving and humorous.

Once, while lucid, I had a frequent dream character try and scare me with a bunch of others, dressed up in creepy monster outfits. They were lumbering towards me with their arms out, zombie style. I thought about it for a second, and decided that I didn't really feel afraid, so I gave the biggest monster a bear hug. As soon as I did, he took off his mask and started laughing, like: "I got you good!"

      Logos,
Thanks for sharing those Lucids, pretty amazing stuff.I can relate to being ejected from "my own?" LDs on more than one occasion.Recently, I had an hour long LD after a long 2 week dryspell.I was just going crazy ,acting silly ,stretching my arms really long, swinging from trees, flying, shooting myself like a slingshot, busting through roofs and into neighborhood houses,it felt soo good to be back in a LD....I was like a dog off it's leash!

Out of nowhere a roving gang of street thugs came up to me with baseball bats. The leader said "man, you better stop this shit, they're gonna kick you outta here". [I've learned not to escalate situations in LDs or in "real life" as DCs and people are reactionary and will basically reflect your own attitudes back to you]

I resisted a macho, egoic temptation to fight them and began to ask questions instead; Who's going to kick me out? How can this happen? Do you know I have a body that's asleep and I'm dreaming right now? They just looked at me as if they were shocked and concerned, then I woke up.No answers.

Another time,I interrupted some DC's presentation at a gathering inside some strange warehouse. The next thing I knew,a team a bouncers came up to me,with "SECURITY" T shirts and all. They started grabbing at me,then the next thing I was awake in bed.

I too have hugged a hideous creatures inadvertently.Once in a DEILD/OBE,I wrapped my dreambody arms around my "wife" who was waiting at our bedside. She morphed into this 9 ft picasso like monster.I just said "I liked you better the other way" ,then it ended.

These things are kind of a total mystery to me,very weird stuff. Maybe this should be another thread,do you have any theories about what is going on with this?

      Planewalker,
"demand to see the true self of things" Do you mean, verbally call out to the awareness behind the dream?

I have done this, asked for clarification, but it usually doesn't help much. However, sometimes later on in waking life, bits of information from dreams turn out to be precognitive. This only seems to happen at random though.

That's exactly what I mean - loudly and keenly. Also works with other commands.

There’s one dumb character who acts annoyingly. Most characters are middling, but characters known to be smart like The Doctor, Futurama’s Bender, Blank from NGNL are pretty smart. I have a man named Mastermind who successfully faked his death, staged chaos at an airport, set up a safe haven, multiple secret hideouts, and helped me out with a plan via phone. Oh yeah, and he used merely teleportation device to kill a multiversal character. Now that is smart.
