Afraid to Lucid dream?

I've been reading up on lucid dreaming tutorials on this site and I'm afraid to try it. I'm afraid of confusing real time with dream time. I'm afraid of nightmares happening, I'm afraid of never waking up and other stuff. Yeah I've been doing reality checks to see if I'm dreaming every day just to make sure I'm not dreaming. But is there really a reason to be afraid of this? I've been having these night terrors lately and I'm afraid to try it. Because of that reason. And there is this demon like clown thats been appearing in my dreams and I'm afraid he'll show up in a lucid since he failed to kill me in my nightmares several of times. This aint funny and I'm not joking. Is there away to resist fear? Please dont laugh. I'm starting to hate this.
