Quitting marijuana in favor of Lucid Dreaming

I have been a regular marijuana smoker for a little over a year now. Before I started I would have on average one lucid dream per week. After I started smoking though my dream recall went to shit (especially if I went to bed stoned). I would take breaks here and there from weed and would experience vivid dream recall, and maybe a lucid if I was lucky. Lately I have been thinking how limitless lucid dreaming can be and have decided to quit smoking. I have been on this site for a while now and am looking forward to getting back into the dream realm.

Anyone else have anything similar to share?

Most people I know who smoke have terrible recall. It's one of the biggest reasons I stopped smoking. I still do from time to time, as my roommates and nearly everyone I hang out with smoke a lot, but a good connection to the dream world is more important to me now.

That said, there are a remote few people out there that have good recall regardless. Really depends on the individual mind I guess.

Marijuana and lucid dreaming are enemies. I know that first hand.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

As a compromise you can always use the REM rebound effect that weed seems to provide.

Smoke for a few days to a week, then take the same amount of time off. During that time dreaming seems to increase quite a bit.

But in general I agree, I seem to be having LDs almost every night without cannabis, and virtual reality is way more exciting than being stoned.

well I think that ze cannabis affects everyone differently. And different strains affect dreaming differently too.
One of the first times I smoked before sleeping I had vivid intense dreams.

But in general it makes remembering dreams hard as shit.

also try vaporizing, its a completely different high and makes you less lazy and forgetful.
Also doesn't seem to affect Dream recall to much.

I copy and pasted this from a marijuana forum here (( http://www.marijuana.com/medicinal-m...rem-sleep.html )) I learned about the effects of thc on rem cycles in high school but I was to lazy to type it out. Good thing I found somebody else to type it out for me.

THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, has been shown to decrease the latency of stages 3 and 4 of sleep, as well as decrease the latency or, oftentimes, altogther eliminate the REM phase of sleep. Laboratory research has been very consistent on this particular adverse relationship since the 1970's, and has been replicated with rats, rabbits, cats, rhesus monkeys, and human beings (mostly college students). The implications for this finding are far-reaching. REM sleep is vital. It is the one point during the night in which your body's muscles and tissues are most at rest. Because of this, the bulk of your tissue & cell repair is done during this phase. It is the immune system's most effective time to work. REM is also vital for the consolidation of short-term memory into long-term memory (remember that chronic marijuana users do not perform as well on task associated with short-term memory as non-users or occasional recreational users). REM is also when the bulk of your dreams happen, and dreams are most vivid durinig this phase (remember the memory consolidation). I recently completed a brief summary of modern research on this topic for the University of South Florida and would be glad to email it to you if you'd like.

I find that smoking right before bed makes dream recall worse, but I tend to remember most of my dreams regardless of how much I smoke before bed, I did however notice if I stop smoking before 6pm at night, dream recall improved...its all different though depending on the person.

I don't believe its necessary to entirely quit to have good dreams and lucid dreams, unless you are highly sensitive to the drug.
I would rather die on my feet then to live on my knees.

Glad someone started this thread, because I was about to make it myself. I for one have been smoking pretty heavily (everyday for the most part) for the last 4 years or so and I'll be the first to say that it DESTROYS dream recall. Granted, every now and then if I smoked by myself immediately before going to bed, I would sometimes have extremely vivid and strange dreams, in fact, that's how I filled up the first few pages in my new DJ, but it was super rare. I'm on the verge of quitting mainly just to get back on my LD game, but before I go cold turkey I'm trying to see if I can find a safe middle-ground where I can still explore the infinite possibilities of the dream world while occasionally partaking in my favorite herb << haha I was going to just put a smiley, but that was so much cooler.. Anyways, it sucks because most of my friends smoke all the time like me, sadly there's not much to do on the small island I live on, so it's tough trying to quit completely. But if it comes down to it, I'll have to part ways, albeit sadly, with my beloved Mary Jane.. But if I can find the right method, or combination of dream aids, then let's just say it's a good thing oneironauts don't have to take drug tests!! hahaha
