I don't think is matters hugely about when you go to sleep. Just if your subconscious has been trained to recognize flaws in the dream world.
I myself have been RCing for about a year now. I RC'd persistently during the beginning of the year (like 5 to 10 times a day) then after a month or two relaxed a bit and RC maybe once or twice every 2 days. I've become very sharp in the dreamworld now, and have started to easily recognize being asleep and have started to maintain a consciousness about as strong as I have when awake after I become lucid, and sometimes during non-lucids (which soon become lucids
