WBTB to bed working but what am I doing wrong?

I've been attempting the WBTB+WILD attempt in the morning and the counting method of "1 I'm dreaming, 2 I'm dreaming" and so on before I'm going to bed. But nothing is happening. I've done over a handful in the recent weeks and I set my alarm for about 6:30am after going to bed at 10pm-10:15Pm. Went to bed at 10is last night and woke up at about 5ish. then did WBTB and WILD. Nothing has happened. What am I doing wrong?

      Hi,

It might've been just that you were unable to fall asleep maybe?
There is somewhat weird balance that exists in (most of?) wild techniques.
If your technique is too strong for either body or mind it might prevent you from falling asleep or slow it down?
If your technique is too light for either body or mind then it might result in falling asleep unconsciously.

The body/mind part is just there to mark that balance exists in all techniques
      Mind ones like counting?
Body ones like lying uncomfortably to induce pain or just to fall asleep slower in hope to enter dream before losing consciousness?
      etc.

I'd suggest reading up this stuff:

The typical initial timing advice is 5 hours after bedtime to attempt a WILD. So if you go to bed at 10pm, you should be getting up around 3am for your WILD. 6:30pm is already more than 8 hours after bedtime and your mind is very likely done with dreaming for the day. Everyone's different though, so experiment with a gradually expanding window of time starting around 5 hours.

In order to WILD only two things are necessary: 1) fall asleep; 2) maintain at least a pearl of self-awareness. Easy to say, trickier to master. So your job is to experiment with: 1) timing (both waking time and WBTB duration, from very very short [almost no WBTB at all] to rather long (30 minutes+)] to find what works for you; 2) a mental anchor to hang your awareness. Could be counting, could be a mantra, could be visualisation, whatever works for you (noticing a trend in this advice?! )

In my personal experience, the slow-falling-asleep experiences lead to the best lucids. But everyone's different. Find out what works for you (there it goes again!)!

And don't think a single failed attempt means a failure for a waking/WBTB time/mental anchor. WILDs are tricky even when everything is perfect, so give yourself lots of time to enjoy finding out ... all together now... what works for you!
